50 Reasons Why We Are Living In The End Times: Part 2

Dr. David R. ReaganPDFBy Dr. David R. Reagan

I have personally been searching the Bible for years in an effort to identify all the signs that show we are living in the end times and soon return of Jesus Christ. It has not been an easy task to get a hold on them. That's because there are so many of them, both in the Old and New Testaments. I have found that the best way to deal with them is to put them in categories, and in doing that, I have come up with six categories of end time signs. The following are the first two categories.

1) The Signs of Nature

"...and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven." (Luke 21:11)

This category of signs has always been the least respected, even among believers. The mere mention of it usually evokes a sneer accompanied by the words, "Come on, what else is new? There have always been earthquakes and tornadoes and hurricanes." But those who have this attitude forget that Jesus said the signs would be like "birth pangs" (Matthew 24:8). That means they will increase in frequency and intensity the closer we get to the Lord's return. In other words, there will be more frequent natural disasters and more intense ones.

And that is exactly what has been happening. For example, between October of 1991 and November of 2004 — a period of 13 years — the United States experienced:

  • 9 of the 10 largest insurance natural disasters in history.
  • 9 of the 10 greatest disasters as ranked by FEMA relief costs.
  • 5 of its costliest hurricanes in history.
  • 3 of its 4 largest tornado swarms in history.

And keep in mind that these statistics were complied before the Hurricane Katrina disaster in August of 2005!

2) The Signs of Society

"Realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God..." (2 Timothy 3:1-4)

This passage sounds like a typical evening newscast today! Notice the three things it says people will love in the end times: self, money, and pleasure.

The love of self is Humanism — the belief that Man can accomplish anything on his own. The love of money is Materialism. When Humanism is your religion, your god will always be money. The love of pleasure is the third love that is mentioned. This is Hedonism, the lifestyle that is always produced by Humanism and Materialism.

But God cannot be mocked (Galatians 6:7). He therefore sees to it that when people chose Humanism, Materialism, and Hedonism, the payoff is always Nihilism — which is a fancy philosophical word for despair.

Need I emphasize that our world is wallowing in despair today? We live in a society plagued by abortion, homosexuality, domestic violence, child molestation, blasphemy, pornography, alcoholism, drug abuse and gambling.

Like the days of the Judges in the Old Testament, people are doing what is right in their own eyes, and the result is that people are calling evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20).

We'll look at the third category — Spiritual Signs — in Part 3 of this series.

Speaking on the signs in nature, all of these signs started going haywire in 1948, the year Israel became a nation once again. Hmmm. Coincidence? Since then everything has increased in number and intensity.

Yes, the world is obviously despairing. It can all be credited to evolution. When you're taught from infancy to adulthood that you're an accident, what should we expect?

Since there is no absolute moral code and people can make up their own rules, people should be happy right? Why aren't they? Because they know instictively that there is a God, but they don't want to acknowledge Him as God so we do things to quiet His voice.

concerning signs in society, does reagan even know the half of it? what i mean is this, i always knew it was bad but with my 9yrs of spending most of my time with youth its shocking how bad. now to be totally honest, i dont know whether my time with jr and sr hischoolers made me MORE of an expert on the way society is (specially the public schools) or LESS of one. all i know is i seen some very bad stuff with no sign of improving. by the way, the only differences between private and public schools is the cirreculim and in private schools the students are better at hiding it. my nephews school in alaska had a drug bust and meth was found in a locker. THE SCHOOL ONLY GOES TO 6th GRADE! of the 15 students that i invested years of time into only 2 did not get heavy into drugs and are serving God. thankfully another 3 are coming around and that was due to a direct intervention. i hear of drug busts in christian schools at their retreats quite regularly. if you heard the trash public schools are teaching the students. they're even bringing in muslem speakers at school assemblies and requiring students to attend. i could write pages and pages of things i come accross daily with my time with the youth. TRULY THESE ARE THE LAST DAYS!

I know the schools are bad... we have an officer in every one of the jr and sr highs in our city. But if you read the police reports you would see a sickening disregard for human life that is escalating out of control. Part of my job causes me to read parts of them and I am shocked, disgusted, and to a sense desensitized from the normal citizen. Perversions and criminal behaviors are getting worse on a whole new level...but because the justice system can't handle the work load, you don't even see all of them. I wish people knew how much the police need to be supported in prayer when their minds are assaulted with this on a daily basis. Yes I firmly believe the Lord is at hand...

Anon and hartdawg,

I was the Lord to come back as badly as you guys do, however, it is my heartfelt desire that He will wait until I can get my son to totally accept. By that I mean, he, like many people, believe there is a God, but that is about the extent of it. He is a very good young man, responsible, well mannered, loving, hardworking, a good husband to his wife, and a very good and devoted father to his two young sons (my adorable grandsons ~ had to throw that in there) But, we all know that it takes more than just believing and being a good person, don't we. I pray for him every day, and I would like to take this opportunity now to ask all of you to pray for him as well, his name is Adam. Thank you in advance.

Buggg :-)

What do we expect? Our kids go off to these athiest factories everyday where the teachers (even if they wanted to) have no authority to punish, are forced to preach the religion of evolution, and (even among Christians) have very little discipline.

Dr. Carl Baugh on his show "Creation in the 21st Century" asserts that everything we see going on society - from street crime to white collar crime - today can be traced back to the theory of evolution. The main tenant of evolution? Life is meaningless. There is no God. There is no hope. There is only this life, so grab what you can grab and get all you can, 'cause this is it.

What makes it even worse is that there are preachers who teach evolution from the pulpit!

Jesus must weep.

Junbuggg, praying for your son Adam. Please pray for my daughter Carrie who is a good person but believes she is gay and thinks she doesn't need God.
