Elmo On Dinosaurs

Nathan JonesPDFBy Nathan Jones

While I was watching Sesame Street with my kids one day a little red monster came out and began teaching on dinosaurs. He said, "Dinosaurs lived millions of years ago." Could this furry, red muppet be right?

Dr. Jobe MartinTo discern whether I should be getting my dinosaur education from well known puppets, I went to Dr. Jobe Martin, former dentist, professor and Evolutionist. Having clearly seen God's eternal power and divine nature from what has been made (Rom. 1:20), Dr. Martin came to faith in Jesus Christ and a trust in the biblical account of the six days of Creation. He and his wife Jenna Dee have since formed Biblical Discipleship Ministries based in Rockwall, Texas to teach on campuses, classrooms and churches that we can trust the Bible's account of the Creation and Jesus as Savior.

Elmo on Dinosaurs

Did dinosaurs really live millions of years ago?

What does the Bible say? We have to go back to the Bible and see what it says. God created Adam on Day Six. That is also the day He created the great beasts of the Earth. That would include dinosaurs. That means we have dinosaurs going all the way back to the beginning when man was here, which is 6,000 (not millions of) years.

We even have pictures of dinosaurs in the Grand Canyon sketched on the rocks that the Indians did. Scientists have done oxidation tests on those drawings. Now, wait a minute, if dinosaurs were supposed to exist long before man and they went extinct about 60 million years before human ever walked the Earth, then how could a human paint a picture of a dinosaur if they've never seen a dinosaur?

We also have those Ica Stones down there in Peru. They have thousands of them with every kind of dinosaur you can think of, which means, maybe as short a time ago as a thousand years they were seeing dinosaurs such as triceratops and stegosauruses in Peru.

Every civilization has some kind of dragon legends even though those civilizations developed totally separate. Well, what is a dragon? Probably it is a dinosaur.

The Bible even talks about dinosaurs. They are mentioned in Job 40:15-24. The verse talks about "the behemoth." Behemoth is a Hebrew intensive name for one huge creature. One of the descriptions of it says that it has a tail like a cedar. Now, the footnotes in almost every Bible will say behemoth has got to be an elephant or a hippopotamus, but you get around behind an elephant and does its tail look like a cedar tree? Well, I guess even the people that do the footnotes in the Bibles think dinosaurs and humans did not live at the same time and that they've got to think up some other way to put another meaning for that word.

Dino With Human Tracks

In several places on Earth dinosaur tracks have been found right along with human footprints in the clay in what is called "cretaceous rock strata," supposedly dinosaur-age rock. In Texas some twenty some years ago, I had my feet in human footprints in cretaceous rock strata. Since then the park service has apparently eliminated those human-like footprints, though the dinosaur footprints are still there. The park was willfully destroying evidence of Creation. If you were to damage one of the dinosaur footprints you would go to jail, but you can damage the human footprints, because humans and dinosaurs couldn't have existed together so they can't be human footprints, in their thinking. The human footprints are supposedly destroyed because they could confuse people and they may begin to wonder if humans and dinosaurs really did coexist together.

How did Noah fit a giant brachiosaurus into the Ark without sinking it?

First of all, that was one huge ship. It wasn't like you see in Sunday School literature, this little boat with giraffes sticking out the top, okay. I would imagine that God brought in young dinosaurs. The biggest dinosaur egg as far as I know is about the size of a football, which means the hugest dinosaur could at one point fit into a football. So, God could have brought young dinosaurs as they would live longer and wouldn't eat as much.

Why have the dinosaurs disappeared?

I think the Flood probably took care of most of the big ones. I think God brought dinosaurs to Noah and there were dinosaurs on the Ark. But, after the Flood, they come out into a different kind of environment. Before the Flood I think we had pole to pole greenhouse and so it was warm. Everything is still eating green plants. Genesis 1:29-30 says, "And to all the beasts of the earth... I give every green plant for food." A dinosaur is a beast, lived on the Earth, and so is included with the "every." And so, they are still eating green plants which is the food that Noah would have had on the Ark. Then they come out of the Ark, but this water canopy has come down and now we have the harsh seasons and now ice and snow. The ice age has formed. There is not as much to eat and God has also put enmity between man and beast (Gen. 9:2). God is saying to Noah, "Noah, you were living with the T-rex on the Ark and he didn't try to eat you and you were still friends, but now he is going to try to catch you and eat you, so you need to catch him and eat him."

I don't think dinosaurs are totally extinct. I think there could still be some dinosaurs around. In 1925 a dead plesiosaurus nicknamed California Nessie was found rotting on the coast. And, just about 10 years ago or so, a Japanese fishing boat hauled up a dead plesiosaurus, one of those water dinosaurs. Some people say that was a basking shark, but it sure doesn't look like one with a neck that long.

As a parent of little kids, my children are going to be taught Evolution in school. What can I do about that?

I think that comes down to discipleship. We need to teach our children what the Bible says and how to defend their faith. 1 Peter 3:15 says we are to sanctify Christ as Lord in our hearts. We are to be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks us of the hope that we have. And so, we teach them what the Bible says and how to critique things. If they see something about a dinosaur on television, we have to be able to say, "Now, wait a minute! We know because God says so that dinosaurs and humans lived together. We know what is true, and this is not true."

You have to be involved with your kids. We have a lot of parents who though they are Christians, they are not involved with their children. They send them off to school, but they don't know what is going on. We need to know what is going on with our children. We did home schooling, so that was our answer to that.

The Evolution of a CreationistThe Evolution of a Creationist Book by Dr. Jobe Martin:
This fascinating book describes Dr. Jobe Martin's personal journey from an evolution-trained scientist to a Bible-believing creationist. Dr. Martin examines many of the claims and theories of prominent evolutionists, comparing their often incredible, inconsistent, pseudo-scientific explanations of origins to the clear and simple description of the Creation as depicted in the Bible.

they were most likely hunted to near extinction after the flood. i wonder what dinosoar meat tasted like, chicken or beef? i love a good B.B.Q. and i`ll bet it was hard to cook a t-rex steak just right, pink in the middle but warm on the outside cuz the steaks were too big

I think I'd have tried the Brontosaurus ribs.

Seriously, though, I remember hearing about some missionaries in Africa who saw something shadowy and indistinct and huge moving throught the jungle. And when they showed a picture of a dinosaur to the natives, they identified it as a creature they were familiar with.

I know there is a reason for these teachings, but enough is enough. Lets move on to something of importance. We Christians do not believe in evolution. Lets get on to something like the teachings of
Ezekel or The creation of man..Genisis.

June, this is important and it is Genesis.

i have a friend who`s been in christian school most his life and has been sheltered and now is at a secular college getting brainwashed so this info is vital to pass on. and i find it quite interesting. and furthermore until this series i always believed in the gap theory. (without there being life beforehand)

i also have friends to go to humanist temples called public schools who are told evolution is a proven fact with irrefutable evidence and are told creation has not one shred of evidence so they also need me to pass this info along. (sadly they dont believe me but i`m refering them to this site)

I completely agreed with you, hartdawg, when you wrote about your one friend who went to Christian school most of his life. I am homeschooled, but I wouldn't call myself sheltered. I think sheltering is a bad idea because when us kids grow up, we need to know what's out there.
My friend Avia didn't know about a lot of things in this world until about... the last year or so I'd say. My parents never really sheltered things from me. and trust me! When i say that, i don't mean they don't protect me! They do, but not so much that I am clueless to the world around me. I love learning and I feel like I should be prepared to face the world I'm going to be thrown into in three to five years down the road if I'm not already in it now.
I think it's so sad when people are taught that evolution is fact and that Christianity is just a fairytale. You know, I'm almost laughing as I'm writing this, but Science can't prove anything. I am right now on module 2 in Exploring Creation With General Science and the author is making it very clear that SCIENCE DOES NOT PROVE ANYTHING. ONE COUNTER EXAMPLE AND THE WHOLE THEORY HAS TO BE REVISED. SCIENCE IS TENTATIVE.
It has to be in every other paragraph, and reading this, I can't help but let it come to mind that in school they say that Evolution is Fact. But if they're saying it's fact because of Science, that's simply not true... it gets ya thinkin'...
I have to say the flood is one of my fave Bible story, that and when Jesus is on the earth, end revelation. (if that's considered a Bible story) I love how even though he was mocked and laughed at, he still believed in God and followed his command! He had amazing faith!

WOW Vini, you are very bright and insightful. i spend the majority of my time kickin it with jr high and sr high students. (guess i never grew up) youth has always been my passion. that and studying prophecy (and theology for that matter) its a crying shame most of the youth today dont share in ur passion. they mostly just accept what they`re taught i think its cuz of laziness. all most of em think about is skateboarding and girls. i`d rather deal with open hostility than careless indifference. dont EVER let some dead church, new age professor or some boyfriend steal ur passion.

I'm gonna do everything I can to stay strong in the Lord hartdawg. Thanks so much for the encouragement!! And I already made the decision that any boy I date has to have the same values I do! :)
Thanks again to all!

Yeah, it's terrible that just because something is "science" it's automatically "fact".

30 years ago Al Gore wrote a book about how the rivers were going to be dried up and the oceans boiling (although I'm not sure how you can have oceans without rivers, but, I digest) by 1984. Well, here we are in 2009 and neither one happened.

Science says that the polar bear is becoming extinct, even though they are breeding like rabbits.

Science said the celocant (I know I misspelled it) was extinct until someone caught one off the coast of Japan.

Science is the observation and testing. You can do neither with macro-evolution. It has never been observed and can't be replicated.

VeniSheckChicolte said...

Yup. I've been reading that a lot in my science book. Science can't prove anything. It is always tentative. And of course there was the whole Global Warming, to Ice Age, to Global Warming again... it's just so flimsy... you just can't put all your trust in science. It just doesn't work.

I think son of thunder meant to say but, I digress - not "digest". LOL
