Why Haiti?

Nathan JonesMP3 PDFBy Nathan Jones

On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, the country of Haiti was rocked by the most devastating earthquake in nearly 200 years.

The massive magnitude-7.0 quake flattened the capital of Port-Au-Prince, leveling everything from neighborhoods, hospitals, schools, cathedrals, the main prison and even the president's palace.

Haiti's Damaged Presidential Palace

An uncountable number of people lay buried among the rubble, from public figures such as the head of the U.N. peacekeeping mission and the Roman Catholic archbishop, to little children in the arms of their parents. The number of dead cannot even begin to be known until the rescue crews gathering from all over the world arrive and begin their rescue efforts, but the numbers could very well be as Haitian Leading Sen. Youri Latortue told the Associated Press ("Thousands feared dead in Haiti quake; many trapped," Tues., Jan. 13, 2009, Jonathan M. Katz) — that 500,000 could very well be dead.

"Death was everywhere in Port-Au-Prince. Bodies of tiny children were piled next to schools. Corpses of women lay on the street with stunned expressions frozen on their faces as flies began to gather. Bodies of men were covered with plastic tarps or cotton sheets.... Parliament has collapsed. The tax office has collapsed. Schools have collapsed. Hospitals have collapsed... Even the main prison in the capital fell down."

Increasing Earthquakes

As horrible as the tragic earthquake in Haiti has been, it hasn't been the first major earthquake in 2010. Just a week earlier the Solomon Islands were rocked with a series of quakes, the greatest a magnitude-6.2. The U.S. Geological Survey's Latest Earthquakes M5.0+ in the World website reports a long series of 5.0 or higher earthquakes, ranging from Tonga to Java to Taiwan to Haiti and to just off the California coast (a magnitude-6.5).

The world continues to painfully witness what NaturalNews.com reported in their article "Natural Disasters Up More Than 400 Percent in Two Decades" (Thurs., Jun. 5, 2008, David Gutierrez) — natural disasters are increasing in frequency, ravaging the world, our countries, and even our own homes.

"The number of natural disasters around the world has increased by more than four times in the last 20 years, according to a report released by the British charity Oxfam. Oxfam analyzed data from the Red Cross, United Nations and researchers at Louvain University in Belgium. It found that the earth is currently experiencing approximately 500 natural disasters per year, compared with 120 per year in the early 1980s. The number of weather-related disasters in 2006 was 240, compared with 60 in 1980... Between 1985 and 1994, Oxfam found that 174 million people were affected by disasters each year. In the following decade, this figure increased by 70 percent to 254 million people per year."

What is the cause?

The Bible gives us the correct answer to all this weather upheaval — God is speaking to us. God has always spoken through signs of nature. The Bible provides us with many signs we are to watch for that will signal the soon return of Jesus, including natural disasters. Jesus said these signs would be like "birth pangs" (Matt. 24:8). That means they will increase in frequency and intensity the closer we get to the Lord's return. And that is exactly what appears to be happening today.

Why God?

God uses signs of nature to underline the importance of major events, like Jesus' soon return.

God also uses them as remedial judgments to call nations to repentance. Haiti is mired in occultism and spiritism, resulting in it being the poorest and most spiritually oppressive nation in the Western hemisphere.

Death Toll in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti

Because of our rejection of God and His moral standards, we tragically are the ones truly responsible for these natural disasters. As long as the nations continue to reject God, He will use natural disasters to yell — "I love you! Repent and come back to me!"

What to do?

God's Word makes it clear that when He sends discipline, the fundamental purpose is never to punish. Instead, the purpose is to call us to repentance so that we might be saved. Here's how the prophet Isaiah expressed it: "When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness" (Isa. 26:9b).

We are tempting Him to move us from judgment to destruction. Our God is so merciful. He is patiently sending us one natural disaster wake-up call after another because He never pours out His wrath without warning. And the greatest "coming wrath" already visible on the far horizon is the 7-year Tribulation (1 Thes. 1:10), which will include two of the worst earthquakes the world will ever experience.

And so, we each need to repent individually for our own rebellion and selfishness. We need to repent nationally for removing God from our society, for our murders from the womb to the elderly, for our obsession with sexual promiscuity, for our fascination with the occult, and for our lack of support for Israel's right to exist. We need to accept Jesus as our Savior, the only way we will be rescued from the "coming wrath."

When Jesus finally returns, the curse will be lifted and the natural calamities will cease.

Note: If you would like to join Lamb & Lion Ministries in contributing to the relief efforts in Haiti, we recommend both Samaritan’s Purse and the Baptist Haiti Mission. Continue in prayer that the relief efforts will greatly spread the hope of Jesus Christ and free Haiti of the hold Satan has on it.

it seems i`m hearing of earthquakes that i didnt even know were on major fault lines. living in the pacific northwest "the big one" can hit here anytime. how long ago was it when reagan did his article "50 reason why we`re living in the end times"? i`ll bet the way things are going he could update it every year and call it "50 more reasons we are living in the end times"

As a lifelong Southern Californian I have to tell you the truth about earthquakes in California.

All my life we always seem to have a lot of earthquakes. In between the larger ones we always seem to have moderate ones now and then on a regular basis.

However, for the past 15 or 20 years we have NOT had those "moderate in-between the big one" type quakes.

I'm not disputing geological statistics BUT we are NOT feeling it in Souther California - actually just the opposite.

DrNofog said...

Geologist say that the moderate ones help relieve pressure. If that ain't happening...get ready [as if anyone can] for a big'un!

Nathan,
I was awakened in the night with these thoughts and would like you to judge them for me please.

Biblically there are two sorts of peoples. The nation of Jacob/Israel, the Jews; and all other nations are gentiles, or none Jews. The Church is a mix of both Jews and gentiles. As Christians, the Jews are still Jews and don’t then become gentiles; likewise the gentiles remain gentiles and don’t become Jews.
So there remains three distinct ‘entities’ of Jews, gentiles and the Church mix.

Because they are distinct peoples, I think it is an oxymoron to claim that the Church is Israel in the New T and Israel the Church in the Old T. Essentially gentile Christians are claiming to be the Jews of Israel, as does Replacement Theology. If that is wrong for Replacement Theology, and it is, then by extension, surely it must also be wrong of Covenant Theology Posties to claim they are one with the nation Israel the Jews. Effectively they are claiming they are Jews, but they are not Jews. If so, consider what Revelation says of this claim.

Rev.2:9 "I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.

Rev.3:9 Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie--indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.

What do you think?

PS I agree with this article, I have said as much over the snow here in the U.K. The E.U. is poking a finger in the apple of God's eye - Israel, and more beside.

We had two earthquakes (a 5.2 and a 4.6 magnitude)here in the Louisville, KY area about 1.5 years ago, which is really strange for the area. As far as I know, the last quake felt here was the New Madrid, MO quake back in the 1800's which rang church bells in Philidelphia, PA. And people then thought it was the 2nd Coming.

We're closer now than we've ever been before.

You axed if any of us was up on "climate change"... Phil Brennan @ NewsMax.com started using the term "Globaloney" [GB] back in '04-'05 so I have a file directory with that name for any 'GB' articles that catches my eye.

They somewhat shy away from "global warming" now, in favor of "climate change" just in case it's IceAgeNow.com instead, so they can still bray that they were right...

WorldNetDaily.com [which BTW holds the record for the highest number of 'sticky hits' of any news sites in the world for several years running] has a cute bumper sticker that says "Climate Change?" & shows the symbols for the 4 seasons -- Yeah, it "changes"... exactly 4 times a year... like clock-work... and year after year to boot!

WND posted "Look who's erasing history of climate"
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?pageId=119745

And Tom Bethell, @ The American Spectator, had "Wikipedia Meets Its Own Climategate"
http://spectator.org/archives/2009/12/30/wikipedia-meets-its-own-climat

Over on your side of the pond, James Delingpole has been doing a bang-up job of ferreting out the rats too:
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100020515/climategate-the-corruption-of-wikipedia/

Concerning Mr. Connolley, having apparently swallowed the whole thing, hook, line, and sinker, [i.e. "being deceived."], he apparently thinks it's his god-given duty to knowingly & deliberately "deceive" others so that only his "truth" remains... And once again, we read it here 1st -- "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived." - 2 Timothy 3:13

I have a principle that I developed many years ago... Whenever the world starts clamoring urgently about something, I step back & "let God be true, but every man a liar..." -Rom. 3:4 ...seems to work, for some strange reason...

Nofog thank you for the info! In giving the link to Lord Monckton, I was concerned lest I had offended?
It’s a fact that man IS polluting the earth, and Biblically I think it will get worse; possibly as a result of nuclear fall out?

During the Victorian age the River Thames was dead of all life and was an open sewer. Then they built the sewerage system and now it is living again. In Sheffield the snow wasn’t white, but grey from industrial soot and coal fires. London was known as ‘the smog’. All towns and cities had what we called ‘peasoupers’; it wasn’t unusual to walk in front of the car to guide the driver to safety. What was once slag heaps from coal mines in Wales, are now lush green rolling hills. We had fog tonight after the thaw, but not like before, after a few hours it has gone. In fact we now have ‘Nofog’ ;)

‘Creation’ quickly dealt with that pollution once man got his ‘finger out’. It’s not as if it has taken The Creator by surprise; He has it covered. Until the Restrainer ceases to restrain, we need to be confident in The Lord, not allow ourselves to be shaken, and do as you say ‘let God be true and every man a liar’.

I read your post, and DrNoFog's, response to it.....in regards to the moderate quakes. Better hold on out there!

I have a few relatives that live out there. One aunt who is in her early 80's but as sharpe as tack, and Loves the Lord.....she thinks one could happen any day.....THE BIG ONE!

If and when that happens, please get a message to us, as you know we will be very worried about you dear brother

Oh, and one more thing.

I heard a thought provokeing question yesterday.......

"why did such a violent earthquake on the island, only devestate half of the Island...the Haiti part, and not the Dominican Republic part".

I don't know much about earthquakes, my "forte" is Hurricanes (living here in Florida), so I would like to know the answer to this.

son of thunder said...

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, Junbuggg, but 90% of Dominicans claim Christianity with a small percentage following vodou (voodoo).

In Haiti, it's almost reversed. Although Roman Catholicism is the official religion, vodou is the national religion with most people practicing some aspect of it.

Expected Imminently said...

In Haiti, the R.C. church is VERY accommodating to their members practicing BOTH the religion of Rome as well as Voodoo! Rome’s usual attitude of ‘if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em’.

Buggg,

I'm not saying quakes are coming, including the "big one", only that lately we haven't had them as frequently.

This may be a bad sign - pressure building up, or a good sign - perhaps the 1994 Northridge quake release a lot of pressure (it was a very strong shaker).

But that's the way it is with our quakes - you never know.

Hopefully I won't have to follow up on that one part and say I'm okay - hopefully we'll be raptured before the next big one.

my folks still talk about the 1964 earthquake that hit alaska on good friday. i havent heard of any major seattle earthquakes tho we did have a moderate one bout 9 years ago.

Well Hartdawg,

Same goes for you.....if you have one, please send us a message, as we will be worrying about cha.

And.............since Haiti is not really that far from Florida, and they just got popped with a big one, I'll do my best to send ya'll a message, hopefully not an SOS, if we end up having one here. Ya never know~

Missionary friends of mine in the D.R. said they didn't even know an earthquake hit the island until they watched the news. The quake was primarily centered on Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.

The differences between Haiti and the D.R. are so dramatic that it exists as a tangible example of spiritual warfare.

Nathan Jones said...

E.I., I agree. The Church may be a spiritual Israel grafted into the family of God spiritually, but Bible prophecy and its fulfillment in a rebudded national Israel is proof positive that the Church and Israel are not one and the same.

Israel in the picture again after 1,897 years should refut ANY belief that the Churh is a modern-day Israel. To think otherwise would be to willfully blind oneself to what is glaringly obvious.

son of thunder said...

No stuff, Nathan? Hispaniola isn't that big, only 29,529 square miles, making it the 22nd largest island on earth, with 10,714 square miles of it belonging to Haiti.

It almost seems impossible that the people of the Dominican Republic didn't feel a 7.0 earthquake just a couple of miles away. That had to be the Hand of God.

son of thunder said...

There's barely 150 miles between Port-au-Prince, Haiti and Santo Domingo, DR. The 5.2 earthquake that hit Louisville in 2008 was almost 200 miles away in Illinois, and we could feel it.

And the Haiti quake was 100 times more powerful than the one I just mentioned.

Regardless of man's opinion--God's judgment of Haiti, and other nations is an act of righteousness. And these are only the beginnings of the birth pangs of the coming New Heaven & New Earth.

In not too many years 1/3 third of the world will be destroyed. And that's not even part of the Tribulation years.
...................................
And in response to another comment: God has made it clear from the beginning that the remnant of Israel (true Israel) will be saved when Christ returns. The Church has been told NOT TO BE PROUD because we do not deserve our redemption either.

God is Holy and he will only live among those made holy through the death of His Son. There is no other way, no other path, no way to influence the actions of God.

Repent.

California is also seeing the wrath of God and more storms are heading their way.

I repeat--REPENT and seek Christ, who paid our sin debt and makes the only way to God.

Seems odd to me to come to the conclusion that God is detroying untold thousands of sinners in Haiti as a wkae up call. A wake up call to the rest of us at the hatian's expense? How is that line of thinking reconciled with such passage as:

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

When I heard it happened in Haiti my first thought was the very significant Voodo that takes place in Haiti. We can't pull the weeds without hurting some of the plants. Those practicing Voodo often call themselves Roman Catholic. I never down the Roman Catholic faith since I was born again in a Roman Catholic service, but what are the Priests telling them about Voodo?

My first experience with the weather was to call off snow storms during our home church meetings. I would say that 80% of the time it worked, even stomrs splitting and missing us in the split (that is God.) Then with Dr. Reagan's lecture on God and the weather. I equated it to sunamis, volcanos, droughts, flooding.

Indonesia, the capital of the Jihad, sunami, several.

Carina, wiped out gambling resorts, wiped out the gay parade, and much more. Yes the plants with the weeds.

Asteroids in the muslim nations in the South East Atlantic.

Many more, now Haiti where Voodo is still very much practiced.

I think about our nation. Why have we been spared of most "natural" disasters? Maybe we havn't, and perhaps it is yet to come as the evil grows here. Porn, prostitution, gambling, drugs, bribery, lust, gangs, socialism, oh God hear your remnant, we are so sorry for sinning against you. God we are so sorry for not watching the walls of this nation dedicated to you by our early settlers and authors of our state constitutions. We are sorry God.

I continue to pray for all Haitians to be saved physically and spiritually, and will send them money.

6 He will judge everyone according to what they have done. 7 He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers. 8 But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness. 9 There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.[a] 10 But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.

Be careful! Have you researched the history of America? It is steeped in the occult as well and continues to go deeper. Take a look at Hollywood, MTV and the church for this matter, many American Christians get their palms read and see nothing wrong with. Are we any better. We are next to receive from God's hand. In Luke chapter thirteen there were those who told Christ of the horrible fate of the Galilians and Jesus replied, "Suppose ye that these Galileans were sinners above all the Galileans because they suffer such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." It further states in verse 4, Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye they were sinners above all men that dwell in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

You are absolutely correct! so why are we as Christians beat over the head with tithing. It is Jewish Law, and we are not expected to keep Jewish Law as Christians. Besides this there are many other laws besides tithing and these are not enforced in the Church. But tithing is. Why? Paul stated that an individual is cursed if he does not keep the whole law.

Anonymous said...

Although God is patient, he has to bring correction if we refuse to correct ourselves. This is the duty of a father which you should know. The scripture states: The Lord chastens whom he loves. and Genesis 6:3 God states that his spirit will not always strive with man. If you violate the laws of the land do you expect to continue to get by. Do yo believe in such a thing called justice? Unfortunately, God's way of handling blatent and persistant violation does not always jive with us. But, who are we to instruct him? The Bible says his ways are not our ways and neither are his thoughs our thoughts. The only difference is he disciplines out of love with hopes of a turn around of the individual(s).

Let me make it clearer that I'm not targeting Haiti as the only place God is trying to shake people loose of their rebellion against Him, bringing them to repentance and right relationship with Jesus Christ.

Wonderfully, reports are streaming in from Haiti about spiritual revival. That's what this is all about - the saving of souls.

It's just terrible that we individually and nationally get to such a low point that God has to use natural disasters to show us just how real He is.

Thank you for this, its amazing and we know that Jesus is coming very very very soon.

The other thing that is big here in south africa, is the witchcraft and hollistic things, every WEEK now on the news, there is a child missing, just to found the remains after a couple of days, for which the hands , feet, and other body parts were cut off for witchcraft, it is just terrible.

son of thunder said...

EK, I'm not surprised to hear that about witchcraft in South Africa. I maybe should be, but....

Since the beginning, Satan's religions have abused children. We see in the Old Testament people passing their children through the fire of Molech: they were literally burning their children alive! And today in the US, the religion of humanism (which is Satanic) has sacrificed nearly 50 million unborn children.

Today in the US, the number of crimes against children is staggering. For example: in the city of Louisville, Kentucky near where I live, a 4 year old boy was brutalized, raped and killed, and his body was thrown in the trash! Trash collectors found it days later.

Expected Imminently said...

Horrible to report but the bodies of dismembered children were also found floating in the river Thames in England! Our police went into Africa searching for evidence.

There is a court case at the moments where two lads of 10 and 12left two slightly younger boys close to death after horrific, unbelievable torture. They did it because they had 'nowt else to do'. There was mention of them having watched some video nasties, one of which was 'Chuckie', something like that? if that isn't a sign of the times what is?

hartdawg said...

WOW! that`s reprehensible! once again i say HOW LONG LORD

Those children were thugs with 'form', they did the same the previous week to another young lad.
The attack was filthy and brutal with acts children shouldn't even dream about. Their neighbourhood had suffered from constant vandellism from the brothers and their family.
They got five years minimum and didn't give a tinkers cuss about it! Their young victims are traumetised; and its hard to pray for the little 'beeps'! God help us all!
