The Immorality of the U.S. National Debt

Dr. David R. ReaganPDFBy Dr. David R. Reagan

What would you think of me if I were to purchase a ten million dollar house and charge it to my children, my grandchildren, and my great grandchildren? I have no doubt that you would think I was both insane and immoral. And you would be correct.

No one has any right to pile up debts for other people to pay. To do so is to commit a form of theft.

Child of Debt

Our federal government is completely out of control. With the encouragement of the executive branch, the Congress continues to spend with reckless abandon.

The inevitable result is going to be a runaway hyper-inflation that will destroy our nation's economy.

Our debt has become so huge that it is now beyond the comprehension of the mind. A recent article in World magazine illustrated this point in a clever way:

How much is $1 trillion? To get an idea of how massive this amount is, think of it in seconds. Going back in time 1 million seconds would take you back 12 days. One billion seconds would take you back 30 years, and 1 trillion seconds would take you back 32,000 years.

The U.S. national debt exceeded $12 trillion at the end of 2009 and is projected to top $20 trillion in 10 years!

Both individually and as a nation, Americans have become debt junkies, insisting on instant gratification through mindless borrowing. Our basic motivating force is greed.

In contrast the Bible exhorts us to be content with what we have (1 Timothy 6:6-8). The Bible does not prohibit debt, but it warns strongly against it: "...the borrower is the slave of the lender" (Proverbs 22:7 – ESV).

This truth can be seen in our relationship with Israel. They are our natural ally, sharing our values. And yet we are limited in what support we can give them because we are indebted to the Arab world for oil. In like manner, it is doubtful that we would come to the aid of another natural ally, Taiwan, should the island be invaded by China. The Chinese own too much of our debt for us to stand up to them.

Meanwhile, we continue to sell off our assets to foreign nations in an attempt to stay afloat. The days are clearly numbered for both the dollar and our status as a world power.

You know, I agree with everything Dr. Reagan wrote. Our government is acting irresponsibly with our money.

But on the other hand, God places those in power in power for His purpose, and right now that purpose is to move things along prophetically to ultimately bring the Jewish people back to Himself, which can only happen via the Tribulation.

Going into debt to buy non-essentials is a very bad thing. I've been there and it is hell. No amount of "things" is worth being in debt.

But on the other hand, I see nothing wrong with spending on non-essential products or services for entertainment and enjoyment as long as...

1. The basics in life (food, clothing, shelter, health, etc.) remains our focus and we are thankful for them if nothing else.

2. We aren't going into debt.

3. We aren't buying just to "keep up with the Jones'" or own the latest gadgets.

4. Our hapiness is not dependent on our spending.

Come November we have the chance to tell our government what we think! If the outcome doesn't turn things around and the status quo wins then ALL IS LOST! You might as well just give up at that point.

GO TO now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments motheaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days (James 5:1-3).

The Word of God is clear concerning what is to come. This prophetic passage goes on to explain the reason behind such global economic turmoil in identifying that while the wealthy, accumulate vast amounts of wealth, the wages of workers are held back by fraud. When consumers wages are in decline, they will use credit as a means to offset this loss.

As consumer credit card debt continues to climb and ultimately leading many to default, these consumers no longer have any purchasing power. When the consumer base is overwhelmed with debt and limited cash resources, the wealthy will not stay wealthy long. Evidently these wealthy men are not Solomon, though they have much wealth, they have no brains.

I believe we all can see clearly where all this is leading, economic bailouts will be the norm until ultimately, their is no more resources left and all we have left is nothing but mountains of debt. America, like every other nation in the world being led by corrupt leadership, oppressing the poor, will face judgement.

Exactly, Billy. Every couple of years we have the power to "overthrow" the government via the ballot box. If only more Christians would go out to the polls and vote Godly men and women into office after kneeling before God and humbling themselves, then this nation would turn around.

Sadly, though, we know from Bible prophecy that that won't happen. Prophet after prophet proclaimed to Ephraim and Judah what was going to happen if they didn't turn back to the LORD their God, and the result was destruction. Are we any different?

I recommend people to watch the Hal Lindsey Report: 5/7/2010 at http://www.hallindsey.com/ entitled "America the Cursed".

Very scary stuff, well at least for those that will be left behind.

I believe our situation with all this debt is evidence of two things, the condition of the hearts of men and the setting up for the introduction of the Anti-Christ who will have "all" the answers to the world's problems. Maranatha! Susan C.

Though I believe their is a remnant of Christians holding political office, they will never be granted the seat of power, even Yeshua makes this clear. We are not of the world so the world hates us. Homeland Security tasked with the security of our nation labels Christians who hold a belief in Bible Prophecy as not only enemies, yet a national security risk.

It is the Lord God that appoints all leaders, to full His divine plan, our votes are therefore meaningless. We could vote because of moral issues, yet we live in an immoral world where every imagination of man is to do evil continually. Our task is not to create a Theocracy, but to convince our leaders to follow the path of righteousness, repent, and acknowledge the Lord God in all their ways.

Without the instruction of the Spirit of God, they will continue to lead this nation to destruction. We would like to see a political leadership that shares our Biblical Worldview, yet as we can clearly see, the Prince of this World has a firm grip. Preparing the stage for the arrival of his ultimate servant, the Son of Perdition or the AntiChrist.

I guess we're doomed since B.O. is led by Allah as confirmed by his confession of his "Muslim faith, er, aaah, uhhh, my Christian faith."

LOL!!! -Back in the '60s -'70s, deoderant commercials, -"B.O." was always a reference to "Body Odor"!
No doubt that 'Allah' is what makes us reek on a daily basis!

And yet I am encouraged by all that is happening in America! Yes, encouraged--I didn't mistype that!

You see, if America were doing well and headed toward prosperous times and more power and better days, I would seriously doubt that the rapture was coming very soon. However, as things stand, our loss of superpower status, the global financial woes, the general decline of America, etc. make me realize that the rapture is very, very, very close!

At the same time, of course, it's been really rough watching this nation flounder and go down in flames! I never realized how much security I placed in America. But since things have started shaking, I took that security and placed it in my unshakable God!

I work for a company which only builds on property that it ownes. The reason is that no one can ever change the terms on them. If they leased or rented, then the price can be changed. As the owner of the property, plans and profits can be made.

With our country in the debt is in, we have been conquered without a single shot being fired. The people who have issued us the credit, own the country. We can make plans, pass bills and think that we will prosper, but we have sold our land to the agency with the deepest pockets.

We are slaves to deep pockets. Thus, our freedom is gone. If we are to serve anyone, it is the Lord Jesus Christ, and He stated that one cannot serve God and money. But then again, according to the prez we ain't a Christian nation...at least not if he continues to sell us down the river and to foreign countries.

Thanks.
