Understanding the Times Radio on Dominion Theology

Dr. David R. ReaganMP3By Dr. David R. Reagan

On September 25th I was interviewed by Jan Markell, Founder and President of Olive Tree Ministries. Jan has written eight major books with prominent Christian publishing houses. She has produced a dozen DVDs, some featured on Sky Angel. At one time she traveled full time across America as a speaker. Since 2000, Jan has been broadcasting her nationally syndicated "Understanding the Times" radio program over the airwaves and Internet. It is a great source of news and commentary-driven information.

Jan Markell

Jan and I spent much of the one hour show talking about the error of Dominion Theology, also called Kingdom Now or Post-Millennialism (read more), holding that the Church Age will gradually evolve into a "golden age" when the Church will rule over all the world. This the view believes will be accomplished through the Christianization of the nations.

The Ministry of Angels: End Times

Dr. David R. ReaganPDFBy Dr. David R. Reagan

The Bible reveals that there will be a flurry of angelic activity in the end times.

Tribulation

The Four Living Creatures before the throne of God are the ones who will execute the first series of judgments that will mark the beginning of the Tribulation. It is in response to their commands that the Four Horsemen go forth with the Seal Judgments that result in the death of one-fourth of humanity (Revelation 6:1-8). Simultaneously, it is angels who will seal 144,000 Jews so that they will be supernaturally protected from all the judgments (Revelation 7:2-3).

When the second series of judgments begin — the Trumpet Judgments — it will be angels once again who serve as the instruments of God's wrath, resulting in the deaths of one-third of those still left alive (Revelation 8 and 9).

In the middle of the Tribulation, Satan will try one last time to take the throne of God, resulting in a war in the heavens between Satan and his demonic angels and Michael and his holy angels. Satan will be defeated, and he and his angels will be cast down to earth. His access to Heaven will be cut off permanently (Revelation 12:7-12).

In the second half of the Tribulation we are told that God will give Mankind one last opportunity to repent before He pours out His final wrath. He does this in a most unusual way. He sends forth three angels with very specific tasks.

The first angel, the one I like to refer to as "the Gospel Angel," is given the responsibility to proclaim the "eternal gospel" to "every nation and tribe and tongue and people" (Revelation 14:6). This will be the only time in history that God has allowed an angel to preach the Gospel. It will constitute the fulfillment of a prophecy made by Jesus when He said: "This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a witness to all the nations, and then the end shall come" (Matthew 24:14).

The second angel will follow the first as he circumnavigates the earth. His task will be to proclaim the impending destruction of the kingdom of the Antichrist (Revelation 14:8). The third angel will follow along behind the first two. His role will be to issue a warning that anyone who worships the Antichrist and receives his mark will suffer God's wrath and torment in Hell (Revelation 14:9-11).

These three proclamations will be followed by the final outpouring of God's wrath, called the Bowl Judgments (Revelation 16). Once again, seven angels will execute these judgments (Revelation 16:1). Angels are also the ones who will destroy the capital city of the Antichrist in one hour on one day (Revelation 18).

The destruction of the Antichrist and his kingdom will bring to a close the terrible period of the Tribulation and will result in all the heavenly host breaking forth in celebration shouting, "Hallelujah!" (Revelation 19:1-7). Shortly thereafter, this same host of angels will return to earth with Jesus at His Second Coming (Matthew 24:30-31). They will gather the elect (those saved during the Tribulation who are still alive) from the four corners of the earth (Matthew 24:31).

Eternal State

The only information we are given about angels in the Eternal State is that the fallen angels, together with Satan, will be tormented in Hell forever (Matthew 25:41 and Revelation 20:10). No information is supplied regarding the godly angels.

I would assume that the holy angels would continue to serve God eternally and that they would also continue to minister to the Redeemed. I yearn to hear their stories about their interventions in my life. I look forward to their fellowship, and most of all, I look forward to hearing them sing!

The Ministry of Angels: Roles

Dr. David R. ReaganPDFBy Dr. David R. Reagan

Michael is the commander-in-chief of the heavenly host and the designated defender of Israel. Gabriel is God's special messenger. The Seraphim are worship leaders. The Cherubim are guardians. The Four Living Creatures of Revelation are either identical with the Cherubim or else they are special representatives of all God's creation. Like the Seraphim, they praise God without ceasing (Revelation 4:8-9).

Regarding the host of regular angels, the Bible makes it clear that they are servants of God who have a variety of tasks. One of those tasks is indicated by their name. The very word, angel, is derived from the Greek word, angelos, which means "messenger." The Hebrew equivalent, malakh, also means "messenger." Accordingly, angels are often pictured in the Scriptures as delivering messages from God. The examples abound throughout the Scriptures. To mention only a few —

  • The Law was given to Moses through angels (Acts 7:53 and Galatians 3:19).

  • Angels are portrayed as mediums of revelation to God's prophets (Daniel 4:13-17, Zechariah 1:9-11, and Hebrews 2:2).

  • Abraham was informed by angels that his wife would have a child (Genesis 18:1-10).

  • Lot was warned by angels of the impending destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:1-16).

  • Joseph was visited by angels three times in dreams. He was assured that Mary was a virgin (Matthew 1:20). He was told to take his family and flee to Egypt (Matthew 2:13). And he was informed when it was safe to leave Egypt and return to Nazareth (Matthew 2:19-20).

  • Cornelius, the first Gentile convert, was told by an angel to send for Peter to receive a special message from God (Acts 10:1-8).

A second major role of angels is to minister to the needs of saints. They were sent to provide food and drink for Elijah as he lay dying in the wilderness (1 Kings 19:1-8). In like manner, angels were dispatched to minister to Jesus after His exhausting 40 days of temptation in the wilderness (Matthew 4:11). An army of angels surrounded the prophet Elisha to protect him when his life was endangered (2 Kings 6:15-19). In the New Testament, we are told that Peter was released from prison by an angel (Acts 12:5-11).

An equally significant role of angels is to execute judgments of God. They were sent to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:12-15). An angel of the Lord killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in one night to prevent them from attacking Jerusalem (2 Kings 19:35). Psalm 78:49 speaks of a "band of destroying angels" that was sent to torment the Jews in the wilderness when they rebelled against God. The New Testament makes it clear that God will execute His end time judgments on the nations through angels (Matthew 13:49- 50 and Jude 14-15).

Some angels seem to have highly specialized responsibilities that relate to the natural universe. Revelation 16:5 refers to "the angel of the waters." Another is called the angel "who has power over fire" (Revelation 14:18). In Revelation 7:1 four angels are pictured who have control of the winds of the earth.

The most popular concept of the role of angels is that of guardians. Most people seem to believe that God has assigned a guardian angel to each person. The Bible never says this, but it does indicate a guardian role for angels. As I have already mentioned, the Archangel Michael is the protector of Israel (Daniel 12:1). Jesus indicated that children have guardian angels. He is quoted in Matthew 18:10 as saying, "See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually behold the face of My Father..."

Hebrews 1:14 indicates that believers may have guardian angels: "Are they [angels] not all ministering spirits sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?" I love this verse, and I often claim it in prayer. For example, when I have to travel out of town, I always pray for the Lord to post an angel at my home to watch over my wife. And I always pray for the Lord to surround my airplane with angels to guarantee a safe flight.

A companion verse to Hebrews 1:14 can be found in Psalm 91:11-12 —

11) For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.

12) They will bear you up in their hands, lest you strike your foot against a stone.

The letters Jesus dictated to John for the seven churches of Asia Minor are addressed to "the angel" of each church. Some believe this is a reference to the pastor, and that could very well be, but I cannot help but imagine that the Lord has assigned an actual angel to guard each of His true churches.

With one exception, which we will see later, angels are never given the responsibility of proclaiming the Gospel. This is the work of the Holy Spirit through human evangelists, pastors, and laymen. But angels are often portrayed as playing an active role in evangelistic preparation. Thus, it was an angel who directed the evangelist Philip to the location of the Ethiopian enunch so that the Gospel could be shared with him (Acts 8:26). The situation is reversed with the Roman soldier, Cornelius. An angel appeared to him in order to direct him to Peter so that Peter could share the Gospel with him. Angels guide, but the Holy Spirit instructs (Acts 8:29).

Several verses indicate that angels are active and involved eyewitnesses to what is going on in the Church and in the lives of believers (1 Corinthians 4:9, 11:10 and 1 Timothy 5:21). Surely the "cloud of witnesses" referred to in Hebrews 12:1 must include the angels as well as saints who have gone to be with the Lord. In this sense I think we can consider the angels to be our cheerleaders! We know for certain that they celebrate when a sinner repents and is saved (Luke 15:10). The Bible also indicates that they attend the death of a believer. In His story about Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16:19-31), Jesus left us with the comforting concept that when a believer dies, his spirit is ushered into the Lord's presence by angels (Luke 16:22).

Dr. Vance Havner commented on the impact of angels as observers in his book, Though I Walk Through the Valley (1974). He tells the story of the pastor of a small country church who was working late into the night on a sermon. His wife asked him why he was spending so much time on a message that would be given to such a small congregation. He replied, "You forget, my dear, how large my audience will be!" Dr. Havner added, "Nothing is trivial here if Heaven looks on. We shall play a better game if, 'seeing we are encompassed,' we remember who is in the grandstand."

The Ministry of Angels: Types

Dr. David R. ReaganPDFBy Dr. David R. Reagan

There is quite a variety of angels in addition to the regular ones and the fallen ones.

The Bible indicates that Satan may have originally been the supreme angel. Before his fall, he is referred to as "the anointed cherub" (Ezekiel 28:14). He is further described as "the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty" (Ezekiel 28:12- 13). After Satan's fall, an angel named Michael became the chief of God's heavenly host. He is the only angel referred to in the Bible as an "archangel" (Jude 9).

The Hebrew Scriptures portray Michael as "the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people [the Jews]" (Daniel 12:1). The book of Revelation pictures Michael as the commander-in-chief of the armies of God, and in this capacity, he wages war against Satan in the middle of the Tribulation when Satan tries one last time to take the throne of God (Revelation 12:7-9). So important and powerful is Michael that some cultic groups, like the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Seventh Day Adventists, have incorrectly identified him with Jesus.

In 1 Thessalonians 4:16 we are told that when Jesus appears for the Rapture of the Church, the event will be heralded by the shout of an archangel. Since Michael is the only angel identified in the Scriptures with this title, he is most likely the one who will utter the shout.

Another angel VIP is Gabriel. He emerges in the Scriptures as God's premier messenger. He appeared to Daniel twice, first to interpret a vision concerning the Antichrist (Daniel 8:15-26), and second, to present the prophecy of the 70 Weeks of Years (Daniel 9:20-27).

In the New Testament, Gabriel serves as an angel of annunciation. He was the one who proclaimed to Zacharias that his wife would give birth to a prophet named John (Luke 1:8-20). And he is the angel who told Mary that she would be the mother of the Messiah (Luke 1:26-33).

There are two mysterious groups of angels that occupy the throne room of God. They are called Seraphim and Cherubim. The Seraphim are pictured only once in the Scriptures, in Isaiah 6:1-3. In this passage Isaiah is given a glimpse of God's throne room in Heaven. He sees angelic creatures called Seraphim hovering above God's throne. They are described as having six wings each. They appear to be worship leaders as they cry out, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts, the whole world is full of His glory."

The Cherubim are first mentioned in Genesis 3:24. After the fall of Adam and Eve and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden, God posted Cherubim with flaming swords "to guard the way to the tree of life." They are next mentioned in Exodus 25 when God told Moses to place images of two Cherubim on the mercy seat (the lid) of the Ark of the Covenant (Exodus 25:18-20).

When King Solomon built his magnificent temple, he placed two gigantic images of Cherubim in the Holy of Holies. Their outstretched wings hovered over the entire chamber, including the Ark of the Covenant with its smaller Cherubim (2 Chronicles 3:8-14). These symbolic usages of Cherub symbols indicate that Cherubim are special guardians of God's things.

The most detailed description of these enigmatic celestial creatures can be found in chapter one of Ezekiel's prophecy. Ezekiel was a prisoner in Chaldea by the Chebar River when he had a vision of a storm coming from the north with glowing figures in the clouds (Ezekiel 1:1-4). He described them as "four living beings" that had "human form," but each of them had four faces and four wings (Ezekiel 1:4-6). They gleamed like burnished bronze (Ezekiel 1:7). Each of these creatures had the face of a man, the face of a lion, the face of a bull, and the face of an eagle — seemingly representing all of God's creation (Ezekiel 1:10).

Ezekiel later identifies these creatures as Cherubim (Ezekiel 10:15) when he encounters them for a second time. The second encounter is a sad one. It occurred when God decided to withdraw His glory from the Holy of Holies in preparation for the destruction of Jerusalem by the Chaldeans. As the glory of the Lord (what the Jews called "the Shekinah") departed, Ezekiel witnessed Cherubim accompanying it to Heaven (Ezekiel 10:1-22).

When the Apostle John was raptured to Heaven from the Isle of Patmos, he saw similar creatures in front of God's throne. Like Ezekiel, he referred to them as "four living creatures" (Revelation 4:6). What he saw was very similar, but not exactly the same. He does not mention each having four faces, and he says they had six wings each instead of four. But he does state that each one had a different face, and the faces mentioned are the same as what Ezekiel saw — lion, bull, man, and eagle.

The only other special angel mentioned in the Scriptures is a very special one indeed. He is the one who is referred to throughout the Old Testament as "The Angel of the Lord." I believe He is none other than Jesus making preincarnate appearances.

The Ministry of Angels: Nature

Dr. David R. ReaganPDFBy Dr. David R. Reagan

Angels are created spirit beings (Nehemiah 9:6 and Hebrews 1:14). Yet, the Bible clearly teaches that they can take on human form and appear to people. In the Old Testament there are recorded appearances of angels to Abraham, Hagar, Lot, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, Gideon, David, Daniel, and many others. The New Testament opens with a whole series of angelic appearances related to the birth of the Messiah. After the death of Jesus, angels appeared at His tomb and at His ascension. Peter, John, Phillip, and Paul all had angelic encounters in their ministries.

In their biblical appearances angels always manifest themselves as men. There is no mention of them having wings. The idea that angels have wings is rooted in the Bible's description of some special angelic beings called Seraphim and Cherubim who reside in the throne room of God in Heaven. Seraphim are described as having six wings (Isaiah 6:2). Cherubim are depicted with four wings (Ezekiel 1:5-6).

When angels take on human form, they appear like any normal person (Genesis 18:2 and Genesis 19:1-17). When they manifest themselves in their spirit form, they tend to appear as dazzling light (Matthew 28:1-4).

Angels have emotions. They rejoiced over the creation of the universe (Job 38:7), and we are told that "there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents" (Luke 15:10).

Angels do not marry or procreate (Matthew 22:30). They do not age nor are they subject to death (Luke 20:36). Therefore, their numbers remain constant. The exact number is not revealed, but it is very large. Ten thousand angels appeared to Moses on Mount Sinai (Deuteronomy 33:2). David saw 20,000 at one time (Psalm 68:17). When John was raptured to the throne room of God, he saw ten times ten thousand (KJV) or, as the New American Standard Version puts it: "myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands" (Revelation 5:11). The book of Hebrews says there are "innumerable myriads" (Hebrews 12:22).

Angels have great knowledge, but they are not omniscient. Jesus said, for example, that angels do not know when His Second Coming will take place (Mark 13:32). Angels are very powerful (2 Thessalonians 1:7 and 2 Peter 2:11), but they are not omnipotent. They are obedient servants of their Creator (Psalm 103:20). They can move about rapidly, but they are not omnipresent. In short, angels are not gods, and therefore, they are not to be worshiped (Colossians 2:18 and Revelation 22:8-9).

There is no biblical passage that says angels have to eat to stay alive, but the Bible portrays them as eating when they take on human form (Genesis 18:1-8 and 19:1-3). Also, Psalm 78:25 refers to the manna God provided to feed the children of Israel in the wilderness as "the bread of angels."

In like manner, the Bible never specifically says that angels sing, but their singing is implied in two ways. First, their words are often expressed in poetic form (Luke 2:14, Revelation 4:8, 11, and Revelation 5:9-10,12-13). Second, music is a universal form of worship, and angels are pictured worshiping the Lord unceasingly (Psalm 148:1-2 and Revelation 4 and 5).

When angels speak to a person, they always use that person's native language. But the Bible indicates that angels have a language of their own that they use among themselves (1 Corinthians 13:1).

The Ministry of Angels: Origins

Dr. David R. ReaganPDFBy Dr. David R. Reagan

Angels are spirit beings (Hebrews 1:14) which were created by God (Genesis 2:1 and Colossians 1:16). Exactly when they were created is not clear, but they pre-date the creation of the material universe because the Scriptures say that they witnessed the creation and rejoiced over it (Job 38:4-7).

One of the greatest myths concerning angels pertains to their origin. Many people are convinced that when a saved person goes to Heaven, he or she becomes an angel. There is no biblical basis for this belief. Angels and humans are two separate entities. The Bible says that Man is slightly lower than the angels (Hebrews 2:5-7), but the Bible also teaches that through redemption Man becomes superior to angels and that the saved will one day judge the angels — most likely the fallen angels (1 Corinthians 6:3).

Jesus spoke of two kinds of angels — the "angels in Heaven" (Matthew 22:30) and "the devil and his angels" (Matthew 25:41). The latter seem to have originated from Satan's rebellion against God.

Satan was originally one of God's most glorious angels, "full of wisdom and perfect in beauty" (Ezekiel 28:12). But his heart became lifted up because of his beauty (Ezekiel 28:17), and his pride motivated him to try to take the throne of God (Isaiah 14:12-14). Due to his rebellion, he was cast out of Heaven, down to earth, and one third of the angels were cast out with him because they joined his rebellion (Revelation 12:4).

The Bible does not tell us when this revolt took place, but it was most likely after the end of the creation week because at the end of that week God pronounced all of His creation to be "good" (Genesis 1:31).

I believe these fallen angels are the demons that are referred to in both the Old and New Testaments. Satan, in fact, is called the "ruler of the demons" (Matthew 9:34).

Three places in the Hebrew Scriptures we are told that people sacrificed to demons (Leviticus 17:7, Deuteronomy 32:17 and Psalm 106:37). With the opening of the New Testament, there is an explosion of demonic activity, undoubtedly in response to the First Coming of the Messiah. Jesus was often confronted by demons who recognized who He was (Mark 3:11), and much of His healing ministry was directed at casting demons out of people (Matthew 8:16).

The Bible teaches that some of these fallen angels did not keep to their properly assigned domain (Jude 6), and they were thus bound in a place called Tartarus, probably a compartment in Hades, possibly even the abyss or chasm that exists in Hades (Luke 16:26). What is meant by "not keeping to their own domain" is not clear. Some believe this is a reference to Genesis 6 where we are told that "the sons of God" had sexual relations with "the daughters of men" and that their union produced a race of giants known as the Nephilim (Genesis 6:1-4).

The Ministry of Angels: Testimony

Dr. David R. ReaganPDFBy Dr. David R. Reagan

Lamb & Lion Ministries had four founders back in 1980. One supplied the faith; another, the leadership; a third, the money. The fourth was the one to whom God gave the vision for the ministry — a man named Dudley Head.

Dudley is one of the godliest men I have ever known. Ever since I met him in the 1970's, he has had an intimate relationship with the Lord, producing many special spiritual experiences in his life.

For example, I remember the day he called me excitedly to tell me about something that had happened to him in his backyard. "I was meditating on the Lord," he said, "when I sensed His presence. I quietly said, 'Lord, please manifest your presence to me in some special way.'"

Dudley said the words were hardly out of his mouth when a Monarch butterfly suddenly appeared, circled him a few times, and then landed in the open palm of his right hand. "We just sat there and stared at each other for a long time," Dudley said.

In 1963 Dudley was serving as the lay preacher of a small church in South Dakota, and he desperately needed encouragement. One day he got a telephone call from a stranger.

"Do you believe in helping people?" the man asked.

"Yes, I do," answered Dudley.

"Even if they are Jewish?"

"Yes," Dudley responded.

The man then explained that he was a Jew who was stranded in the town and needed help. He said he was at a gas station on the main highway that passed through the town.

Dudley drove over and picked him up. He was a young man in his early 30's. He said he had been hitchhiking from California.

Dudley took him home, and his wife fixed dinner for him. After dinner, Dudley asked the man if he would like to go to his church's Wednesday evening Bible study. The man agreed.

They were studying the Old Testament, something none of the members of the church were familiar with, including Dudley. As they began their study that evening, the Jewish stranger soon took over and began to explain the meaning of the Scriptures. Dudley was amazed, enlightened, and encouraged.

Dudley found a place for the man to stay that night and paid for his lodging. The next morning, he had disappeared without a trace.

To this day Dudley believes the man was an angel sent by God to encourage him and to get him interested in the prophecies contained in the Hebrew Scriptures. And ever since that strange experience more than 40 years ago, Dudley has emphasized Hebrews 13:2 to everyone: "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it."

Yes, the Bible teaches the reality of angels, and it teaches that they sometimes take on human form in order to minister to those who are in the process of being saved (Hebrews 1:14).

Truth of the Christian Worldview: Saul Alinsky

PDFWho is Saul Alinsky and how did his ideas get into the highest offices in the United States?

During the last weekend of June each year, Lamb & Lion Ministries conducts a Bible conference in the Dallas, Texas area, with 2010's themed Defending the Faith. The opening speaker was Brannon Howse, the Founder and Director of the Worldview Weekend Foundation, an organization that sponsors Christian worldview conferences all across our nation every year. Brannon is also the author of eight books and is the host of a nationally broadcast radio program which features his biblical commentaries on current events.

Brannon's topic at our conference was "The Truth of the Christian Worldview" (watch). He began by explaining that a worldview consists of the basic values that determine a person's decisions. Thus, a person with a Christian worldview would be one who believes in God, believes in the Bible as the Word of God, believes that Jesus was the Son of God, believes that Man is basically evil, and believes that faith in Jesus is mankind's only hope.

Brannon emphasized that there is a worldview war going on between Christianity and five other predominant worldviews, namely: Secular Humanism, Cosmic Humanism (better known as the New Age Movement), Post-Modernism, Islam and Marxism. He then began to elaborate on the key individuals who have undermined the Christian worldview here in the United States. Brannon's presentation was based on his latest book titled Grave Influence. In the book, he presents 21 persons who are undermining America and impacting the world from the grave.

Brannon Howse

Brannon Howse on Saul Alinsky

Saul Alinsky is someone that I look at in my book Grave Influence. He also is involved in this spiritual battle because guess who he dedicated his book to? Satan. I think the dedication has been taken out of some of the books now, but I have some of the originals where the foreword was dedicated to Satan. Lest we forget, at least a over the shoulder acknowledgement, Satan was the very first radical from all our legends, mythology, and history. Lucifer was the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did so effectively that he won his own kingdom.

President Obama studied Saul Alinsky and our President taught Saul Alinsky. Our Secretary of State Hilary Clinton wrote her thesis on Alinsky. Alinsky wanted her to come work for him, but she decided to go instead to be a staffer on Capitol Hill.

Saul Alinsky

We have people that are committed to the ideas of Saul Alinsky, who was a neo-Marxist, "neo" meaning "new." He is a new kind of Marxist. What does that mean? He did not believe that you could have a revolution through guns and bullets. He believed the way to have a revolution that lasted was to penetrate every institution of a culture — education, church, law, science, economics — and bring it down. It is what the Italian communist Antonio Gramsci called "the long march through the institutions."

Saul Alinsky studied Antonia Gramsci. Gramsci said to Mussolini, "You are going about this all the wrong way. Not guns, not bullets, change their hearts, change their worldview, and they will love their servitude." Mussolini didn't like what Gramsci said and threw him in jail where he died. Alinsky studied Antonio Gramsci. Obama studied Alinsky and even taught his book Rules for Radicals. Hilary wrote her thesis as I said on it. It is the philosophy that is running today.

What all did Alinsky say? He said that a community organizer. He used the word "change" in his book over and over, and by "change" he means revolution. He used the phrase "community organizer," which is what our President was. A community organizer is first and foremost committed to relativism.

What does the Bible say about relativism? In Genesis 3:1-5, Satan appears to Adam and Eve and says to them basically, you decide what is right and what is wrong. This is one of the very lies of humanism, and that is what a community organizer must be committed to, that truth is relative.

You see, it is so important that we teach that truth is not relative, but truth is absolute. And what is truth? The Bible says, "Thy Word is truth." Why is "thy Word" truth? Because, it is a reflection of God's character and nature. It is so important that we are hooking the Bible to the character and nature of God, otherwise we are involved in teaching legalism to our kids and that the Bible is a book of rules of do's and don'ts.

We must connect truth to the character and nature of God. Why don't we murder? Ask a young person and they will then say, "Because the Bible says not to." Why does the Bible say not to? Because, God does not like murder. But, why does God not like murder, and why does the Bible say not to murder? That is the end of the conversation. They don't know. The answer is, "The Bible says not to murder because God is opposed to murder as murder is not consistent with His character and nature.

Why is purity right? Because, God is pure. Why is honesty right? Because, He is truth. Everything must come back to the theology and doctrine and the character and nature of God.

Synthesis of Opposing Ideologies

Let me tell you what Julian Huxley, the brother of Aldous Huxley, said years ago. This is what he said would happen. "At the moment two opposing philosophies of life confront each other, you might categorize the two philosophies as two Super Nationalisms, or as Individualism versus Collectivism, or as Capitalism verses Communism, or Christianity versus Marxism. I don't care what you call it." He said, "You can call it whatever you want. But, can these opposites be reconciled? This antithesis be resolved in a higher synthesis? I believe not only that this can happen, but through the inexorable dialectic of evolution, it must happen."

What is Julian Huxley saying? He's saying these opposing ideas will merge and they will synthesis to produce a mixture of both, and people will follow them. For example, Marxism and Christianity came together and we call it Liberation Theology or Social Justice. Reverend Jeremiah Wright and Reverend Jim Wallis and many of our church denominations are buying into it. I saw one major denomination has a leader who keeps on talking about the importance of social justice. We have one major evangelical leader inside the Southern Baptist sitting on a U.S. Muslim Engagement Committee with people who he says are moderates, but when I researched them they are outright radicals. They are not moderates. You cannot rebuild bridges with people who want to kill you!

Why do we need to call it Social Justice? Why do we use their phrases? Why do we have to have these stupid conventions where these guys with their silly dyed straight up pointed hair and big thick black glasses looking so immature trying to be so relevant need to get together and have a retreat coming up with one of our major denominations on how to write a thesis on what "missional" means? Why do we have to be so cute by half? Why can't we just simply say we are going to fulfill the Great Commission and use the biblical terms?

Truth of the Christian Worldview: John Maynard Keynes

PDFWho is John Maynard Keynes and how dangerous is his Marxist system of economics?

Brannon Howse on John Maynard Keynes

One of the radicals that are ruling from the grave from my book Grave Influence is Karl Marx. All these people by the way hate God.

Karl Marx began by reading his Bible every night and was involved in Christian ministry before he turned to the occult. He claimed to be a Christian as a young man. I even have poetry written by him, beautiful Christian poetry. But, sometime after high school he turned and got into the demonic realm. His own father believed he was also possessed.

Karl Marx

Karl Marx said, "My objective in life is to dethrone God and destroy capitalism." He was involved in Satanism, even wrote a play dripping with Satanism, I believe.

Karl Marx is the father of Marxism and wrote The Communist Manifesto with Engels. He said, "I wish to avenge myself against the one who rules above." Also, "The idea of God is the keynote of a perverted civilization, it must be destroyed." Marx also said, "Man looked for a super human being in a fantastic reality of heaven and found nothing there but the reflection of himself."

Then here comes John Maynard Keynes. John Maynard Keynes taught at Harvard University. We've got Karl Marx for Marxism, well John Maynard Keynes, that is Marxism, too. Keynesian economics is another word for Marxism. You've got Marxism, Communism, Socialism being the economic philosophy of Marx, and you've got Keynesian Economics. They are the same thing, so you might as well say Marxism. You can say Keynesian Economics, or you can say Marxism. You can say Marxism or you can say Keynesian Economics. It is the same thing. In fact, this is what Joan Robbins a Marxist economist who was a friend who worked with Keynes said, "The little difference between Marx and Keynes are verbal."

John Maynard Keynes

John Maynard Keynes is the one who was responsible for the Depression being longer and deeper by saying that when there is an economic slow-down the government becomes the primary spender and the primary employer. Sound familiar? Larry Summers, the Presidents chief financial man here now today in 2010, said when asked on television who influenced his thinking more than anyone else, without hesitation he replied, "John Maynard Keynes." I can't tell you the number of elected officials that I have seen on television saying, "Keynesian Economics is what we need. Keynesian Economics is what we need." Keynesian Economics — Printing of money, the government becomes the primary spender, government becomes the primary employer.

Keynes Objective

What was the objective of John Maynard Keynes? John Maynard Keynes was a Fabian Socialist. What is a Fabian Socialist? Well, Fabian socialism was started in London in 1883 and a Fabian Socialist wants socialism by evolution, not revolution. They want it over time.

Frankly, right now, my friends, there is a war going on within the Liberals between those who are the Fabian Socialists who want to do it over time and those who are outright revolutionary Marxists who want it right now and who think the time is fleeting and since we might not get another chance we better go now. So, there is a war going on between among the Liberals. Some of our Republican friends even are Fabian Socialist, right? And, some of the more moderate democrats are Fabian Socialists. Then there are the extreme Liberals who are just flat out revolutionaries. There is a battle going on. So, your Fabian Socialist wants socialism by evolution, not revolution, and that was what John Maynard Keyes was.

The end game of a Fabian Socialist is this — global governance. That is the end game goal of a Fabian Socialist. They want global governance.

John Maynard Keynes, by the way, do you know what he said? John Maynard Keynes said, "This is how we implement socialism — by a continuous process of inflation and by a continuous process of printing money." He said by a continuous process of inflation governments can confiscate secretly and unobserved an important part of the wealth of their citizens. By this method they not only confiscate, but they confiscate arbitrarily. Wile the process impoverishes some, it actual enriches others such as Al Gore and others who make billions of dollars on Cap and Trade and trading carbon credits. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction and it does so in a manner that not one man in a million can diagnose.

Today our currency has been so inflated since the creation of the Federal Reserve, a completely unconstitutional organization that came about in 1913. By the way, Congress is supposed to be in control of the money and the Constitution calls for it be backed by gold and silver. You can thank a man who said he wasn't a Fabian Socialist, but then after he got into the White House Richard Nixon said, "I am a Fabian Socialist, close the gold window." And today, compared to 1913, your dollar is worth 4-5 cents. In 2008 they inflated our currency by 74% over 84 days. Inflate our currency by 74% over 84 days?! Amazing, huh? That's nothing compared to what they have done. This is inflation — it takes more dollars to buy things, devaluing your currency, stealing your wealth, and stealing your capital so you can not be a Capitalist.

What does the Bible say about this? The Bible has two of the Ten Commandments against this: "Thou shalt not covet," and the other one is, "Thou shalt not steal." Anytime you steal from someone or take from someone what is not rightfully yours, you are stealing. When you take from someone what is not rightfully yours and give it someone else, that is theft, that is coveting, that is redistribution of wealth, and that is socialism. And yet, many Christians think our progressive income tax system is exactly what needs to happen because this is the way to make sure that everybody has what they need.

What did Karl Marx say? He said, "My goal is to dethrone God, and destroy capitalism."

Homosexual Anti-Establishmentarians

Here is what Zygmund Dobbs writes about Keynes in his book available free online, he said, "Singing the red flag the high borne sons of the British upper class lay on the carpeted floor spitting out socialist schemes and homosexual intermissions. The attitude at such gatherings was anti-establishmentarian. To them the older generation was horribly out of date, even superfluous. The capital system was declared obsolete and revolution was proclaimed as the only solution. Christianity was pronounced an enemy force."

All of these people hate Christianity, all of them. The worst sort of depravity was eulogized in "the love that passes all Christian understanding." Chief among his ring of homosexual revolutionaries was non other that John Mayner Keynes. Keynes was characterized by his male sweetheart as a "liberal, a sodomite, an atheist, a statistician, and a particular depravity was the sexual molestation of little boys."

This depraved thinking goes on today through the promotion of another gentleman (I use that word loosely) whom I talk about in my book. John Mayner Keynes did this, but so did another guy by the name of Alfred Kinsey. I have a whole chapter on him. He said, "Children should be sexually active by age six." Did you hear on FOXNews.com this week the school passing out contraceptives to six year olds? As soon as I was sitting at my desk and I heard that I lifted my head and I thought, "Six years old, why six years old? Ah, Alfred Kinsey." According to Kinsey, the kids must be sexually active by six years old before they are influenced by Christianity.

Alfred Kinsey

John Mayner Keynes and Alfred Kinsey — you see you start seeing these 21 radicals I was able to connect a lot of their worldviews and their beliefs and their perversions together, because guess what they are serving... the same master.

What are they doing to us?

These radicals are creating a major crisis on purpose. We began to speak on this about year and a half ago, and we sent it out to all the talk show hosts. I sent it to my friend David Limbaugh to give to Rush. I sent it to Glen Beck's producers and other folks, and thankfully some of them now over the last several months have been speaking about it. My friend James Simpson wrote a ground breaking article on our website about the manufactured crisis and the Cloward-Piven strategy to deliberately collapse the system, as that is what they are doing.

These are men like Pulitzer Prize winning author James McGregor Burns, who wrote in 1984 his book The Power to Lead. He said, "Let's face it, the framers of the Constitution have been too shrewd for us. They have been too smart for us." He said, "We cannot just tinker around and have frail bridges, we've got to turn the Founders on their head. But, the American people will not let us go where we need to go. The only way they are going to accept these radical alien changes to our form of government is during a stupendous national crisis."

My friends, Lenin said you need at least two things for a revolution. One, you need a crisis, and two, you need the youth of the middle class. They've got both right now — a crisis and boy they've got the youth of the middle class. They unfortunately predominately have the youth of our own evangelical churches as well.

Truth of the Christian Worldview: Alice Bailey

PDFWho is Alice Bailey and what are her teachings concerning a "new group of world servers" about?

In the book, he presents 21 persons who are undermining America and impacting the world from the grave.

Brannon Howse

Brannon Howse on Alice Bailey

One of the radicals that are ruling from the grave from my book Grave Influence is Alice Bailey. Now, this will show you just how serious of a spiritual battle this is. Alice Bailey was like and is really like many young people today. She was involved in Christian ministry work. She said she read her Bible every night. But, one night she set aside her Bible which she was in the habit of reading and she picked up a book by Helena Blavatsky who was an occultist. The Secret Doctrine was the name of the book. This is who Adolf Hitler also studied. And, as she read this demonic book she ended up meeting her own demon. "The Tibetan" is what she called him. Together they wrote over 24 books totaling 10,000 pages.

Helena Blavatsky and Alice Bailey

Now, I don't want to give too much credibility to demons, but I do want to show you some of the things that she said so you can understand just how serious this spiritual battle really is. Alice Bailey is what the Scriptures warned us about in 1 Timothy 4:1, "Now the spirit expressly says in a later time some would abandon the faith or depart from the faith and follow deceiving spirits, and doctrines of demons." That is happening today!

This is what she and her demon said, "The hierarchy is struggling hard with the so called forces of evil and the new group of world servers is the instrument." So, the new group of world servers will be the instrument to battle the forces of evil. Do you know who the forces of evil are? Christians. And, the new group of world servers will be the instrument. (I'll tell you who they are in just a minute.) "These forces of evil, the entrenched ancient ideas which must now disappear if the New Age is to be ushered in as desired."

Look, she is using the phrase "New Age" for New Age Movement. That is your pagan spirituality, your cosmic humanism. Alice Bailey and her demon in her books said "the old established rhythm inherent in the old forms of religion, of politics, and of social order must give place to newer ideas to the synthetic understanding and to the new order."

Notice that phrase again, "new order" or "new world order." The media always laughs at us when we use the phrase "New Order" or New World Order." Folks, we are only quoting the elite. We are only quoting them.

This is exactly what Henry Kissinger said on the floor of the stock exchange just days before Barak Obama was inaugurated. He said, "He has the chance to usher in the New World Order." A few days later he wrote an article in the International Herald in January of 2009 and said, "Chance for New World Order." Gorbachev wrote an article the exact same week saying, "The financial crisis is the chance for global governance." You had then Prime Minister Brown of Great Britain come out at the end of one of the G20 meetings and say, "This is the beginning of the New World Order." You had the newly installed of January of 2010. The new, full-time, first installed President of the European Union in late 2009 said that, "2009 was the beginning of the New World Order." I am only giving you their phrases.

Where does "the new world order" come from? It comes right out of the demonic realm through the meeting of certain great and outstanding personalities who are particularly sensitive to the will to power.

Have you heard that phrase before, "the will to power?" That is Nietzsche. Nietzsche said, "The highest calling in life is the will to power. It doesn't matter how you get it just as long as you get it and maintain it. Doesn't matter how you get it." In fact, Nietzsche said, "There's not right, there's not wrong, all there is is the will to power."

Friedrich Nietzsche

Nietzsche even wrote a book called Beyond Good and Evil. He said, "We've got to get beyond good and evil; all there is is the will to power."

Nietzsche wrote a book later called, The Antichrist. He used to sign his own letter sometimes as "Friedrich Nietzsche the Antichrist," and sometimes just "The Antichrist." It was the last book that he wrote. Within days of finishing it he went nuts and spent the next 10 to 11 years out of his mind. But his book was called The Antichrist. He was involved in the demonic realm, I truly believe.

And here is another person involved in the demonic realm — Alice Bailey — saying with her demon, "What is the calling in life? The will to power."

So, these are the people who are part of the new group of world servers who will be the instrument in destroying the forces of evil — Christianity — to usher in the New Age. They are the people who are particularly sensitive to the will to power. They have altered their character and their national life and emphasizing increasingly the wider human values. These men inspired the initiation. Who are some of these people? Well you've got Mussolini, Hitler, and Stalin. These are who are part of the new group of world servers. As Alice Bailey said, they are people who are particularly sensitive to the shamba forces — the demonic forces.

Who would be your members of the new group of world servers today?

They are the ones calling for the new world order for global governance for sustainable development — Henry Kissinger, Mikhail Gorbachev, Gordon Brown, Herman Van Rompuy and others.

"Sustainable Development" is the new buzz word coming out of the UN in 1992 for the destruction of Christianity, the implementation of global governance, pagan spirituality, abortion on demand, population control, prosecution of Christians, and the end of parental authority. All these come under what is called "Sustainable Development" from the UN in 1992 with Maurice Strong and Mikhail Gorbachev.

Maurice Strong in 1995 said, "The only hope of the world is that the industrialized civilizations collapse. Isn't it our responsibility to bring that about?" And, indeed they are bringing it about today on purpose. These are the agents said Alice and her demon who are the creators of the new order and destroyers of what must be destroyed. What are they wanting to destroy? Christianity.

Alice Bailey and her demon said that they would implement this new order in three ways:

1) Teaching pluralism to children.
Pluralism means that all religions are equal, except of course Christianity as that is "bigoted and intolerant." Is that happening today, pluralism? Oh, indeed!

2) Reject the exclusivity of Jesus Christ.
No John 14:6 "Jesus is the only way." All roads lead to God. As Oprah said, "There could not possibly be just one way to God; there are millions of ways."

3) Teach people they are gods. [Editor's note: inferred third point]
"Teach people to tap into their unconscious mind and discover that they are god." Here is Oprah, she has been teaching this with Eckhart Tolle and other New Agers on her XM site radio show.

About a year and a half ago Oprah taught Helen Schuckman's book, another one of the 20 radicals I look at in the book Grave Influence. Helen Schuckman taught at Columbia University and she also consulted a demon. By the way, Alice Bailey wrote her book by going into a trance and using automatic writing.

Helen Schuckman

Helen Schuckman wrote her New Age book A Course in Miracles, which became the New Age Bible. With over 600 pages, she wrote it by going into a trance and listening to what a demon would say and then she would write it down in shorthand. She would then read it back later to one of her college friends or professor friends who then would type it up, and they did this in secret. What was born was the book A Course in Miracles. Oprah taught it last year on her XM site radio show about a year and a half ago.

Do you know what Helen Schuckman said, by the way, in her book? She said certain things like, "Salvation comes from me." "Don't make the pathetic error of clinging to the old rugged cross." "Jesus is a man like any other." "Sin is not real." "Sin is lack of love."

Hebrews 13:9 says, "Don't be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings."

Truth of the Christian Worldview: John Dewey

PDFWho is John Dewey and how has he socialized the American educational system?

During the last weekend of June each year, Lamb & Lion Ministries conducts a Bible conference in the Dallas, Texas area, with 2010's themed Defending the Faith. Brannon Howse

Brannon Howse on John Dewey

When did the great transformation in America happen? It largely and aggressively began in 1933 when John Dewey, the father of modern education, signed the Humanist Manifesto which started the social society in America.

John Dewey

Dewey went to Russia in 1920 to study the Karl Marx way of education and then came back to America to teach it at Columbia University. John Dewey was involved in helping start the American Communist Leftist Union, which is known today as the American Civil Liberties Union. When John Dewey brought the Frankfurt School to America in 1933, that's when the speed towards Socialism really began to speed up.

The Frankfurt School were German intellectuals who had been in Germany and started in 1923 what we now call the Frankfurt School. They helped lay the academic and worldview foundation for the acceptance of Adolf Hitler. They taught Friedrich Nietzsche who declared, "God is dead, and not only is God dead but we can smell his rotting corpse." What did he mean? We've killed the idea of God in the conscience of the people.

Friedrich Nietzsche

My friends, we have largely killed the idea of God in the conscience of a whole generation, and we are about to reap the consequences. I fear that our next holocaust beyond the murder of 53 million babies is going to be active euthanasia, particularly for the rationing of health care. I have asked my radio audience to send me stories of active euthanasia in this last week and I have been flooded with nurses and family members and hospice workers detailing active euthanasia.

It has been this generation that has been taught the ideas of Nietzsche, who is one of the most read authors on college campus today. "God is dead!" He taught that it doesn't matter how you live. The highest calling in life is to serve the State. Nihilism means life has no meaning aside from serving the State, and when you can longer serve the State, you are not a productive human resource. You are just in the way, and the right to die is now becoming the duty to die.

Multiple generations now have been taught the life-boat scenario. It goes, there are five in the life boat but there are only provisions for four. Who the least valuable is must go over the side for the good of the group. And, my friends, educators, parents, professors who taught this to one generation after another are going to be the ones to find themselves being thrown over the life-boat.

Nietzsche said we need spiritualize cruelty. The Frankfurt schools studied Nietzsche. Hitler studied Nietzsche. Hitler liked to have his picture taken staring at a bust of Nietzsche. Hitler had the works of Nietzsche edited and handed off to Mussolini. And so, when the Nazi party came to full power, the Frankfurt school folks got nervous and they left Germany and came to America at the invitation of John Dewey in 1933.

Understand NASCAR, Understand the Trinity

How can understanding NASCAR help one understand the Trinity?

Gary Smith, fellow Bible prophecy student and moderator of the 3,000+ member Christ in Prophecy Facebook group, has answered this most interesting question, clutching insights from both his love of the Lord and of high speed auto racing.

Gary Smith

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it." - 1 Corinthians 9:24

Today, the biggest form of racing in the United States is called NASCAR. I'm a big NASCAR fan and have been for a long time. In fact, I like most forms of motor sports.

NASCAR has some distinct characteristics from which I have come to understand some biblical truths, one of which is the Trinity. Of course, this isn't a perfect analogy since we're comparing sinful humans to God, but bear with me here.

NASCAR

What in the world does NASCAR have to do with the Trinity? Well, we must first have a brief lesson about a NASCAR team structure. Every team has a Car Owner, a Crew Chief and a Spotter, as well as a Driver and Crew. In fact, the Driver and Crew can't operate without the first three.

The Car Owner is the one who hires the Driver (usually by actively looking at local short-tracks). The Crew Chief is the one who sets up the car and leads the Pit Crew, as well as standing between the Owner and the Driver. The Spotter is the person who stands up on the roof of the grandstand and speaks directly to the Driver, helping guide him through the race. The Driver is obviously the one actively involved in running the race and the Crew helps him get to the end.

Let's look at how this translates into a Biblical truth.

The Car Owner
The Car Owner is like God the Father. He calls the Driver. The Driver may be actively looking for a ride, but it's the Owner who (usually) calls him or her. Think about Abram. He was probably a religious man (actively looking for a ride), but it was God who called him. Paul writes extensively about God calling the unbeliever and sanctifying them. We may be actively looking for God through religion, but all of our looking is ultimately futile without answering His call. If the Driver doesn't answer the call, he or she won't get the ride they're looking for. And, the Driver must trust that the Owner will give him the equipment he needs to succeed.

The Crew Chief
The Crew Chief and the Driver have to have a good relationship in order to be successful. If they don't have a good relationship they won't be able to work together. Two who aren't in agreement can't walk together. The Driver has to trust the Crew Chief implicitly. He has to trust the Crew Chief will make the right calls on whether to change two tires, four tires, or no tires at all. He has to trust that the Crew Chief will make the right call on adjustments to the car to make it drive better. (For those unfamiliar with the sport, a NASCAR stock car has adjustability built in. The team can adjust the way a car drives based on what the Driver tells the Crew Chief.)

For the Crew Chief to know what's wrong, though, the Driver must call him on the radio and tell him what's going on. We, as Christians who have a relationship with Jesus Christ — our Crew Chief — would call this "prayer." We call upon our Crew Chief when things aren't right, and we have to trust that He knows what He's doing. If we do not, we run the risk of hitting the wall because we refuse to call on Him.

The Spotter
The Spotter, as I stated earlier, stands high above the track and watches the race from his perch. He has a direct radio link to the Driver, Crew Chief, and Owner. His job, though, is to guide the Driver around the track. That may sound ludicrous, but the Driver is very restricted inside the car. In the old days, a Driver could turn his head and look behind himself, but not anymore. The Driver has very limited vision inside the car and has to depend on his Spotter to tell him who's behind or beside him (tricky business at 190 MPH!).

The Spotter must pay attention to what's going on around and in front of his Driver. If there's a wreck up ahead, the Spotter tells the Driver the safest place on the track to get through any carnage. He may tell the Driver, "Go high," "Go low," or "STOP!!!!" When racing side-by-side, the Spotter tells him who he's racing with and where the other racer is exactly. In short, the Spotter is the Driver's extra eyes.

The Spotter represents the Holy Spirit. Even though the Holy Spirit lives inside the believer and isn't outside watching from the side-lines, we must trust Him to make the right calls to get us through the obstacles in our path.

The Pit Crew
The Pit Crew, in my mind, represents those whom God has hired to help us. Whether they be angels or ministers, God has given us a support group to help us through the race. Without a good crew, the Driver will not be successful.

The Driver
The Driver is obviously you and me. The Driver has to trust the Owner, the Crew Chief, and the Spotter or he won't get very far.

How are you running your race? Are you trusting the Owner, Crew Chief and Spotter, or are you ignoring them? Are you on the radio telling them what's going on in your race?

If you trust and obey them, you will run well. You might get banged up like a good race car which is covered in dings, dents, and scratches proving the Driver has driven hard, but you will finish well.

Future Hope Conference & Concert

Future Hope Conference

What does the Bible say about your future?

Hope - "to look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence"

We live in a time of great turmoil. Our lives are full of fluctuations and changes. The world seems always teetering on financial, environmental, or international disaster. War looms across the planet. It is a time when everything seems about to unravel, and we ourselves may become undone.

But, there's hope! We're not talking about the hope made in promises by politicians, which we learn by the end of the day were empty and meaningless. We're not talking about the religious platitudes that everything's ok which leaves us dry.

No, we're talking about REAL hope. The hope that only Jesus Christ can bring. He wrote the playbook for all of human history. He tells us how it will all turn out. He lets us know that the future is bright... if we make the right decisions. Jesus tells us there's hope.

Olivet Discourse: Rapture Reference

Dr. David R. ReaganPDFBy Dr. David R. Reagan

Can the Rapture be found in the Olivet Discourse? Or, does Jesus speak exclusively about His Second Coming?

Many very fine Premillennial Bible prophecy experts have taken the position that the Rapture is nowhere to be found in the Olivet Discourse. To the contrary, Amillennialists and Postmillennialists argue that the Rapture can be found in Matthew 24:31.

Let's consider the latter position first. Matthew 24:31 reads as follows: "And He [the Son of Man] will send forth His angels with a great trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other."

The most detailed description of the Rapture (Jesus coming for His Church) is contained in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.

Comparing it to Matthew 24:31, we find two similarities — the blowing of a trumpet and the gathering of the elect.

But there are also several differences:

  • In 1 Thessalonians 4, believers are gathered in the air when Jesus appears in the sky and are taken to Heaven. In Matthew 24 they are gathered after the arrival of Jesus on earth, and there is no mention of them being taken to Heaven.

  • In 1 Thessalonians 4, the Lord Himself gathers the elect, whereas in Matthew 24, they are gathered by angels.

  • The gathering in 1 Thessalonians 4 includes the resurrection of the bodies of the dead in Christ. There is no mention of anyone being resurrected in Matthew 24:31.

  • In 1 Thessalonians 4, the spirits of the dead in Christ return in the clouds with Jesus. In Matthew 24 Jesus returns alone.

Those who insist that the Rapture is mentioned in Matthew 24:31 are actually contending that the Rapture and the Second Coming are all one event, producing what I call, "the yo-yo Rapture." I call it this because they are proposing that Jesus will appear for His Church, the living and dead in Christ will be raised up to meet Him in the sky, and then He will immediately return to earth with them. This is not a biblical scenario because Jesus said in John 14:1-4 that when the Rapture occurs, the living and dead in Christ will be taken back to Heaven.

All "gatherings" mentioned in the Bible do not refer to the Rapture. At the Rapture the bodies of the dead in Christ will be resurrected and taken up to meet the Lord in the sky where their spirits will be reunited with their bodies. The living in Christ will follow, and the bodies of both groups will be glorified. They will then be taken to Heaven.

At the Second Coming, two additional gatherings are going to occur. According to Luke 17:22-37, all unbelievers who are alive at the end of the Tribulation when Jesus returns will be gathered and consigned to death, their bodies being given over to the vultures.

But at the Second Coming there will also be a gathering of "the elect" (Matthew 24:31). This could be talking about all believers who are alive at the end of the Tribulation, but it is most likely referring only to Jewish believers because it is quoting Deuteronomy 30:1-5, and that passage is a prophecy that when the Jewish people finally accept their Messiah (which, according to Zechariah 12:10 will happen at the end of the Tribulation), God will gather them back to their homeland and establish them as the prime nation of the world during His Son's millennial reign.

If the Rapture is not referred to in Matthew 24:31, can it be found anywhere else in the Olivet Discourse?

Many, if not most Premillennialists contend that Jesus simply did not mention the Rapture, but I respectfully disagree with that position. I believe Jesus mentions the Rapture in verses 36-44 of Matthew 24. The first reason I see the Rapture in these verses is because Jesus says, "of that day and hour no one knows..." How could He possibly be referring to His Second Coming? Keep in mind that He has just told His disciples exactly when He was going to return — "immediately after the tribulation of those days" (Matthew 24:29).

From both the prophecies of Daniel and the book of Revelation we know the Tribulation will last exactly 7 prophetic years (years of 360 days each). Anyone living at the beginning of the Tribulation (when the Antichrist signs a treaty with Israel) could calculate the exact day of the Lord's return because we are told that the Tribulation will last precisely 2,520 days (Revelation 11:3 and Revelation 12:6). So, again, when Jesus says no one can know the day of His return, He must be speaking of the Rapture, and not the Second Coming.

Next, Jesus says that when He returns, society will be like it was in the days of Noah, when right up to the last moment people were "eating and drinking" and "marrying and giving in marriage" (Matthew 24:38). In other words, life will be continuing as normal when He returns.

But this could not be talking about the Second Coming because life will be anything but normal at the end of the Tribulation. At that time more than half the population of the world will have been killed, including two-thirds of the Jews, and the whole world, according to what we are told in Revelation 13-19, will be in absolute chaos.

Additionally, if you will take a look at the Olivet Discourse as it is recorded in Luke 21, you will find that Luke adds an observation that Matthew's account does not contain. In the section where Jesus starts talking about how His return could occur any moment, Luke quotes Him as saying: "Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man" (Luke 21:36, NKJV).

Those words sure sound to me like a reference to the Rapture of the Church.
