Importance of Bible Prophecy: Key Scriptures

Dr. David R. ReaganPDFBy

Let's conclude with a reminder of what the Word of God itself says about the value of prophecy. In this way we can be assured that the effort we expend in looking at the prophetic scriptures will be time extremely well spent.

"The secret things belong to the Lord our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our sons forever" (Deuteronomy 29:29).

"Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret counsel to His servants the prophets" (Amos 3:7).

"I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things which have not been done... I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, surely I will do it" (Isaiah 46:9-11).

"[Jesus said] 'Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill'" (Matthew 5:17).

"[Jesus] said to them, 'These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled'" (Luke 24:44).

"Of Him [Jesus] all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins" (Acts 10:43).

"The prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful search and inquiry, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow" (1 Peter 1:10-11).

"...we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place... But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God" (2 Peter 1:19-21).

"The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" (Revelation 19:10).

Boy do I miss that "other" Reagan. As in the former president.

The Ronald Reagan Library sent me a calendar. Each month features quotes from Reagan. This months quotes:

Ronald Reagan on Faith

"If we ever forget that we are 'One Nation Under God' the we will be a nation gone under."

"The Constitution was never meant to prevent people from praying; its declared purpose was to protect the freedom to pray."

"Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all the problems men face, if we'd only look there."

There is yet another significant scripture that reveals the empowerment of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life for direction and revelation!

"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he WILL SHOW YOU THINGS TO COME"-John 16:13.

The Lord God has provided all we need through his Word, declaring the end from the beginning! It is through this Word that we can confidently predict diplomacy and strategic moves by our own nation as well as many others in relation to Israel! We also can predict the rise of tyranny and economic chaos as well as the increase in natural disasters! It is clear also that as the days continue to pass leading up to the end of the Church Age that very few that bear the title Christian will remain in the faith! Because we have this sure Word of Prophecy, we have no need to fear, for as we all are aware, we are not subject to wrath but our heirs of salvation! Our Blessed Hope approaches!!!

"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he WILL SHOW YOU THINGS TO COME"-John 16:13."

Your use of this verse makes me nervous. I am unsure of your point and I don’t want to nit pick for the sake of it, it’s just that it seems as if you may be taking it too far in application?

In context, Jesus was speaking to the Disciples, explaining that when He ‘went away’ the Holy Spirit would come and give more revelation than He had already told them, such as the mysteries given to Paul to reveal and Christ’s Revelation to John. The Holy Spirit would divinely inspire them all to write the New Testament. That being revealed and recorded, the Canon was closed and there is no more fresh Revelation. Each Scripture has only ONE interpretation and no one is allowed to add to it.

All Scripture is given to us to learn …, but not all Scripture is meant to apply to us personally. In this case, the Holy Spirit certainly leads us into all truth using the Scriptures, and shows us the things to come that are now written down for us in the Bible. It isn’t for making fresh predictions with.

Sorry if I have misunderstood your intent.

Gee Rodney...Did you just pull a 'Harold Camping' on Nathan?!?

Rodney said "...for with confidence, I can say I do know and by late March you will also!"

Are you receiving "special revelation" from God again or are just simply noting the growing
"crowd" of prophecy "scholars" who see a timing correlation between the book of Esther, the celebration of Purim [the commemoration of the Jewish victory over the evil Persian Ha-mad-man seeking to kill them], and the evil Persian Prez. AhmInADinnerJacket madman?!?

I mean, the statistical odds are very high indeed that you... or rather, the "crowd" of prophecy "scholars" could be right on target, but that's an educated speculation at best, certainly NOT your "rock-solid", "I can say I do know"...
;)

This may seem off-topic but I'll connect the "dots" as we go along...
Funny. Sad but true, but funny none the less...

Rodney says "Our Blessed Hope approaches!!!"

Apparently this "blessed hope" can't include a pre-Gog/Magog rapture. What's so blessed or hopeful about that?

Rodney said...

My confidence remains and so does my anticipation of these prophesied events to take place, for I believe Psalm 83, Isaiah 17, and Ezekiel 38 & 39 are one and the same! As I have already made clear Israel nor the United States will strike Iran or Syria militarily while everyone else, is jumping through hoops claiming it can happen at any moment. I however trust the Word of God and know Iran and Syria will remain intact until the Battle of Gog/Magog! Just keep watching and witness to all that will hear while we still have time!!

Rodney said...

Dr NoFog, it is not Purim that I anticipate as when this will take place, I anticipate it to take place near or on Passover! Late March however you will see all the participants being dragged to the region enmass as the struggle in Syria gathers the West and their Sunni allies and Iran and Russia along with Lebanese and Hezbollah forces prepare to defend Syria!

If we are still here at the end of March, the rapture being 'any moment' for 2000 years, we could be up up and away at any minute; I shall remind you of yet another failed timing attempt as yet another false prophecy hits the dust. Jesus is returning 'at a time you think not'; so whatever you think your god has told you, it aint kosher, and that makes you another false prophet.

Neck on the line for me based on knowledge of the imminent rapture that does NOT link with the Jewish feasts. Watch this space!

Rodney,

Having re-read the verses you reference, I can't see how they verses can be "one and the same".

They may be occur around the same time. They may be related. But not one event.

It sounds like Psalm 83 will be first...the Arabs deciding to attack Israel. This could be followed very quickly by Isaiah 17, with Syria joining in to help which probably leads to their destruction via an atomic weapon. The result would be a completely defeated Arab world and an unwalled and peaceful Israel.

Then later down the road when the situation had settled down Gog/Magog will take place. Perhaps the rise of the anitchrist will come during the Psalm 83/Isaiah 17 events to help calm the situation. God could supress the temptation of Russia/Iran/Turkey during this time span. Perhaps the antichrist will solve the Iranian nuke situation and there won't be a military strike. Who knows for sure.

But I think there has to be a defeated Arab world and a destroyed Syria first. Perhaps the rise of the antichrist. And then comes Gog/Magog which gets the Russians, Iranians and Turks out of the way and opens things up for the antichrist to make the peace treaty between Israel and the remaining Arabs, who will defeated and open to such a treaty.

In the end...I have no idea how it will play out. All I know is I don't want to be here to find out.

That also begs the question what about the U.S.?

It could be the Rapture that takes America out of the picture. (I'm hoping and praying for that).

Would the U.S. just "sit out" these events and not get invovled? If Obama is in office and/or the Democrats control Congress, too, I wouldn't call that scenario farfetched. If that were to happen, I could see the U.S. getting nuked by Russia in an first strike prior to invading Israel as punishment in the Gog/Magog event.

Or maybe a combo of the two...the Rapture occurs. Whoever is President wouldn't be able to respond and Israel would be on their own. The U.S. as a world power would be destroyed by the aftermath of the Rapture.

Hello Billy
Getting back to what we DO know! Presently there is an East/West divide causing a power struggle in the world. This is the two legs of Rome. For one world government to really take off, which will be the united ten kings/horns stage, something has to happen to break this East/West power struggle. The only thing available in Scripture is Ezek 38.39. This is when the Eastern power will be broken when Gog and her Islamic armies are crushed by The Lord. Don't forget, it is also their home lands and ‘islands’ that is to be decimated, not just the armies. (I think this also includes North Korea)

The power of the East will be first weakened by the destruction of Damascus Isaiah 17, with the final quenching of those named in Psalm 83 which is BEING fulfilled. Damascus is to become as Israel’s ‘glory’ vs 3; so their ‘removal’ would certainly seem to involve Israel. The 'taking out' of these nations bordering Israel will be the final hooks in the jaw of Gog as they are, at present, Gog’s ‘hands and feet’. The quickly following Ezek war will finally result in the breaking of the East/West power struggle. Then the One World government will be completed – out of which shall come 10 horns/kings. Out of them, shall come, the ‘little horn’ of A/c.

President Obama, in his recent speech has effectively given Israel the ‘green light’ to attack Iran; I suspect this will have to include Syria as their cup of wickedness seems full to overflowing. Damascus is the regions ‘arms dump’, the local supplier for Israel’s enemies, that is their main artery in the Middle East, it has to be cauterised. imo

Sue said "Getting back to what we DO know!" Right you are. Rodney's rants always end up in distraction. Time to focus on the Word of God, not the words of rodney.

Sue also said "President Obama, in his recent speech has effectively given Israel the ‘green light’ to attack Iran..."

Actually, I think Israel told Obama we will attack if we want, when we want and we aren't going to tell you so you can tip off your Arab brothers, Mr. "My Muslim Faith" President.

Billy said...

I meant to say so Barak HUSSEIN Obama "CAN'T" tip off his Arab brothers.

Great point about Damascus being a weapons dump, E.I.! Recent AP article reports: "Marine Gen. James Mattis, head of U.S. Central Command, also said Syria has a 'substantial' chemical and biological weapons capability and thousands of shoulder-launched missiles. Until now, the U.S. military has largely declined to describe the expanse of weapons that President Bashar Assad's regime has at its disposal."

Assad could have inherited all those WMDs from Iraq when Bush's administration couldn't find them (typical Saddam tactic). Storing so many of those weapons in Damascus could be their very undoing.

Rodney said...

I still have to laugh at the fact that so many believe that the Lord God will provide Israel with a decisive victory over their immediate neighbors (Psalm 83) and grant them an expansion of territory and wealth to boot, then turn around and bring an even greater coalition against them (Ezekiel 38/39) a short time later for rebellion against him (Ezekiel 39:7). I believe you would have to be a lunatic to believe such a fantasy!

We all are aware of the strategic alliances in the region and we can fully understand that any combined effort of Israel's immediate neighbors in a conflict will of course include their regional counterparts specifically as they see the impotence of the West regarding both Syria and Iran! The scenario and sequence of events now being portrayed by many scholars is an obvious error, including an Israeli nuclear detonation on Syrian territory!

Just keep watching!!!

Rodney said...

As the West will soon seek to intervene militarily against Syria moving their forces in the region allied with Turkey, Russia and Iran will move their forces in to counter any move! This game of chess will continue leading to the fulfillment of the Gog/Magog battle of Ezekiel 38-39 as many more players will be gathered on their perspective side on the borders of Israel!
