Eschatological Chutzpah

Dr. David R. ReaganBy

Let's begin with some definitions. Eschatology is the branch of theology that relates to end time prophecies and events. Chutzpah is a Hebrew word that can be translated as nerve, gall, or audacity. When an English-speaking person uses the word, chutzpah, he normally does so to emphasize that a particular statement or action is especially outrageous. So, "Eschatological Chutzpah" refers to a statement about end time prophecy that is characterized by unmitigated audacity.

Dispensationalism Defined

To understand and appreciate two such statements I have in mind, one further definition is required — the definition of Dispensationalism. This term, as it applies to end time prophecy, refers to those who are Premillennial in viewpoint and who believe in a Pre-Tribulation Rapture. They also believe that the Jews are still the Chosen People of God and that one day, at the end of the Tribulation, a great remnant of them will accept Yeshua (Jesus) as their Messiah.

Dispensationalists are very careful to keep God's promises to the Jews separate from the promises He has made to the Church. And they adamantly reject the anti-Jewish viewpoint that has dominated Christendom for 2,000 years, called Replacement Theology. It is the unbiblical idea that God has washed His hands of the Jews and has no purpose left for them because they rejected Jesus as their Messiah.

Dispensationalists point to Romans 3:1-4 and Romans 9-11 as proof positive that God still loves the Jewish people and that He still has a purpose for them. They totally reject the idea that the promises God made to the Jews have been transferred to the Church.

Dispensationalists also believe that the numerous prophecies in the Old Testament about an end time regathering of the Jews to their homeland and the re-establishment of their state are being fulfilled in Israel today. Accordingly, Dispensationalists are often referred to as "Christian Zionists" since they are the staunchest defenders of the Jewish state in all of Christendom today.

Chutzpah Example #1

Now, with this background, let's proceed to two incredible examples of Eschatological Chutzpah that I want to share with you.

On July 12th, Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute, interviewed Dr. Gary Burge on his radio program called "The Bible Answer Man." Dr. Burge is a professor of theology at Wheaton College.

Dr. Burge is also the most outspoken American Christian critic of Israel and supporter of the Palestinians. He has helped organize conferences held within the Palestinian Authority where Jew haters have spewed their contempt of the Jews and Israel, have denounced the Jewish claim on the land, and have expressed their unqualified support of the cut-throat, blood-thirsty leaders of the Palestinian Movement, including Yasser Arafat, who was the world's leading terrorist.

The first example of Eschatological Chutzpah on this program occurred when Hanegraaff began with a preamble in which he condemned Christian Zionists for being "racist" and supporting "ethnic cleansing." Absolutely incredible!

Who are the real racists in the Middle East who are intent on ethnic-cleansing? They are the Arab Muslims whom Hanegraaff and Burge so enthusiastically support. There are over one million Arabs living within the Jewish state, all of whom have complete democratic rights. Not one Jew is allowed to live in the surrounding Arab nations. And who is intent on killing whom? It is not the Jews who are committing acts of terror against innocent civilians. It is not Jews who are daily shooting rockets into Arab countries. It is not the Jews who are teaching their children in their schools to hate and kill Arabs.

As I have often put it: "The situation in the Middle East can be summed up very simply in this observation: If the Arabs were to disarm, there would be peace; but if the Jews were to disarm, Israel would cease to exist."

Chutzpah Example #2

The second example of Eschatological Chutzpah in this off-the-wall radio conversation was Gary Burge's contention that Dispensationalists are the true anti-Semites! How he could deliver that line with a straight face is beyond my comprehension.

His explanation of this absurd accusation was based on the fact that Dispensationalists teach the Church will be raptured out of this world before the Tribulation begins while the Jews will be left behind to suffer the wrath of God (together with unsaved Gentiles), and that two-thirds of the Jews will die in the process (together with one-half of the Gentiles).

How can this teaching be considered anti-Semitic when it comes straight out of the Scriptures? (See, for example, Zechariah 13:7-9.) The Bible teaches very specifically that in the end times God will regather the Jews back to their homeland and re-establish their state (Isaiah 11:10-12 and Ezekiel 37:1-22). God will then bring all the nations of the world against the Jewish state (Zechariah 12:1-3), not because He hates the Jews, but because He loves them (Malachi 3:1-4). He wants to bring them to the end of themselves and put them in a position where they will have no one to turn to except Him. At that point, He will send Jesus back, and when the Jewish people see Him returning in majesty, they will repent and accept Him as their Messiah, to the everlasting glory of God (Zechariah 12:10).

And so you have it — a perfect example of Eschatological Chutzpah. Just think about it: two anti-Semitic proponents of the Islamic enemies of Israel calling the greatest supporters of Israel, "anti-Semitic." Now, that's the definition of chutzpah!

Hating the Jews Beyond Rationality

Nathan JonesBy Nathan Jones

What happens when you bring three different Egyptian actors onto an Egyptian interview show, but then as a prank you pretend and reveal that you're really an Israeli station? Thinking maybe some lively debate will commence about making peace between the two countries, possibly punctuated by a little expected heated exchange? No? Well, they're actors, right? So, they'll share about their favorite thespians. No? Or, maybe just a good forehead-slapping "whoops" and chuckles all around. Not quite. Check out Egypt's version of "Candid Camera" in the video below!

(First actor transcript on The Blaze.)

I have to admit that as I watched this video I felt totally shocked. I sent this video to some friends and they also expressed a numbing shock. The commenters below the video equally expressed their shock.

Trying to Understand

What would cause three actors, one a comedian, to explode into a murderous fury? Why would any male beat a pretty young hostess and readily pull his gun on national TV? Is this a normal reaction when one finds themselves on Candid Camera?

After picking my jaw off my chest, I realized what stunned me most was the most extreme level of Anti-Semitic hate spewing from these three people. Again, I had to ask myself, "Aren't these just actors, and not members of the Muslim Brotherhood?" Actors are supposed to be the more tolerant and liberal of the world's occupations, right? And yet, the two men as you saw punched out the female hostess and beat up the director — merely because he looks sort of Jewish! The female actress at least didn't engage in violence, but with a shrill violence of mouth called the Israelis everything in the book, and looked to Allah to justify her accusations.

If these three are just the average celebrity in Egypt, what are the more politically or religiously-minded people in Egypt like? The all too obvious answer scares me.

My only consolation, though slight, is that in a time of massive sociopolitical upheaval in Egypt where the Sharia-enforcing Muslim Brotherhood has come to power, it's not very good career-wise to show up in anything of the "enemies," even if it's merely a short TV interview. Show any support for Israel and as a good Egyptian you might find yourself executed by any ghastly method or bloody fashion. Best to put on some bravado and tout some country loyalty, sort of like the lady interviewer did near the end.

Does that answer the why to the violent outbursts? No, I don't think so, either. The obvious answer is what all three actors stated at face value — they and Allah absolutely and totally hate the Jews with the passion of a thousand burning suns. Since the baby doctor slapped them on their newborn butts (they'll blame the Jewish doctor for that act of violence), Joe Muslim has been taught that the Jews are evil, lying pigs who must die, and the sooner the better. The world would be better off without them, they believe, so let's begin shooting them on national television!

Behind the Hate

Even with their life-long indoctrination, there is a level of unbridled hate coming out of the Muslim world that is unnatural. The fomenting pot of red-hot boiling Anti-Semitism is ready to boil over to scald the planet, and yet it makes little sense. Like the feeling of fire ants swarming and biting all over your feet, the Islamic world is raging uncontrollably. Therefore, the hate is supernatural.

I believe there are two supernatural reasons for this. For one, such hatred is deeply rooted in evil, and evil is of course satanic. Satan is riling up a great army to storm and overwhelm the Jewish people. If he can accomplish the utter annihilation of the Jewish people, then God's plans to redeem a third of the surviving Jewish people by accepting Yeshua as their Messiah will be thwarted (Zech. 13:8-9; Rev. 12:13-17). All the promises God made to the redeemed Jews who will live during Jesus Christ's Millennial reign as a special priestly people and caretakers of the Kingdom capital will be preempted (Isa. 2:1-4; 60:1-62:7 2:1-4; Mic. 4:1-7). Also, the blessings of the Lord to the world would be cut off (Zech. 8:22-23). In other words, Satan hopes to defeat Jesus by killing off the key people group to His plan — the Jews.

Secondly, the Bible reveals that God in His sovereignty and purposes is allowing the Islamic nations to unite in their one sole purpose — the destruction of the Jews. Why, that would be crazy? Crazy like a fox! Ezekiel 39:25-29 reveals God's two great purposes:

"Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will now bring Jacob back from captivity and will have compassion on all the people of Israel, and I will be zealous for my holy name. 26 They will forget their shame and all the unfaithfulness they showed toward me when they lived in safety in their land with no one to make them afraid. 27 When I have brought them back from the nations and have gathered them from the countries of their enemies, I will show myself holy through them in the sight of many nations. 28 Then they will know that I am the Lord their God, for though I sent them into exile among the nations, I will gather them to their own land, not leaving any behind. 29 I will no longer hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord."

In Ezekiel we're told that God will allow the satanic gathering of the Islamic world in their blind hatred to attempt to annihilate the Jewish people in Israel. But, in this prophetic Battle of Gog and Magog the first result will be that Israel's enemies will be utterly devastated on the mountains of Israel. Unfortunately, sometimes God has to utterly and finally remove hearts so stained with evil and rebellion that will never call upon His salvation. This will be such a a time.

The second result is that God will "make myself known in the sight of many nations" (Ezek. 38:23). The plans of the Enemy always are upturned for the glory of God. If that just galls Satan, then I say, "Good!"

There's a third reason, and it is a wonderful, wonderful thing for the people of Egypt. Egypt will be mostly destroyed because of its constant aggression against God's plans through Israel, but not totally. During the Millennial Kingdom, God will restore the Egyptians who survive the post-Gog-Magog Tribulation and have accepted Jesus and Savior back into the land of Egypt, and they will worship Yeshua alone. It's interesting and wonderful to note that the two main enemies of Israel in Isaiah's time — Egypt and Syria — will worship God together in friendship during Jesus' upcoming reign here on Earth. They are the three nations out of today's configuration that are known to still exist during that blessed time (Isa. 19:18-25). How wonderful that the Lord Almighty will bless them, saying, "Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance."

The insane hate of the Egyptian for the Jew will finally be over. The Millennial Egyptian will be one of those who, "In those days ten men from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, 'Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you'" (Zech. 8:23).

Guest Article: "The Battle of Armageddon"

Revelation 16:16, "And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon."

The Battle of Armageddon is a future battle that has been so misunderstood by the church and the world. Whenever there is a major event dealing with a bomb in Israel, the News Media always responds with a headline like: "Armageddon is upon us!" or "The world is coming to an end!" But, in fact, many have no clue as to the true nature of what this great battle actually is.

What is the Battle of Armageddon?

The Battle of Armageddon will be a war of such catastrophic proportions, that nothing known to mankind can compare. Jesus Christ will attack and defeat Anti-Christ and his armies, resulting in monumental bloodshed and death in the land. This battle will take place in the prophesied geographic location, in the land of Israel, known as the Valley of Megiddo. This event will take place after the Great Tribulation Period, at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, when He returns to set up His Millennial Kingdom on the Earth.

The Smith's Bible Dictionary, defines Armageddon as: (the hill or city of Megiddo - Revelation 16:16). The scene of the struggle of good and evil is suggested by that battlefield, which was famous for two great victories. The first is of Barak over the Canaanites (Judges 4 & 5) and the second is Gideon over the Midianites (Judges 7). Two great disasters, the deaths of Saul and Josiah (2 Kings 23:29-30; 2 Chronicles 35:22). Hence, it signifies in Revelation a place of great slaughter, the scene of a terrible retribution upon the wicked. (The Revised Version gives the name as Har-Magedon, i.e. the hill (as Ar is the city) of Megiddo.

What does the term Armageddon mean?

  1. HAR-MEGIDDO - "a mountain or range of hills, Hill country." "mount of slaughter." Refers to the hills of megiddo.
  2. Megiddo - meaning "Rendezvous" Megiddon, a place in Israel.
  3. GADAD - meaning: "To crowd; also to gash (as if by pressing into) Assemble (selves by troops). Gather (selves together, self in troop). Cut selves."

The definition of Armageddon gives us a clue as to what this battle will be like. We can see that it is a battle that will be fought in the valley of a mountain range of hills. It will be a place of great slaughter for those who are gathered there which will include being cut into pieces. It will also be a place where troops will be gathered, assembled and pressed in together. Armageddon will be a battle like nothing this world has ever seen. And what is so amazing is the fact that this battle will take place as a result of the return of Jesus Christ. At this point, I need to emphasize a very vital point in understanding this teaching. That point is that, without the return of Jesus Christ in his Second Coming, there will be no Battle of Armageddon. His physical return is the catalyst that starts this battle.

Names Given to the Battle of Armageddon

The Battle of Armageddon is mentioned all through the Scriptures. However, you will not find the actual word Armageddon mentioned. Here we will examine verses in the Scripture that give reference to and allude to the Battle of Armageddon and the place where it will be fought.

1) The Supper of the Great God
Revelation 19:17, "And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;"

2) Valley of Jehoshaphat
Joel 3:2, "I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land."

3) Valley of Decision
Joel 3:13,14, "Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision."

4) Day of Vengeance of our God
Isaiah 61:1, "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;"

Isaiah 61:2, "To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;"

5) Great Winepress of the Wrath of God
Revelation 14:19, "And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God."

Revelation 19:15, "And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God."

6) Battle of that Great Day of God Almighty
Revelation 16:14, "For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty."

The Battle of Armageddon in the Scriptures

Now, we will see this great battle as it is mentioned in the Scriptures. These verses are key to understanding this great event.

1) Revelation 14:17-20"And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs."

These verses tell us that the Battle of Armageddon will be like gathering grapes for the winepress. At the time of this battle, the ungodly will be gathered to the Valley of Megiddo and cast into the press to be judged by Jesus Christ. As grapes are trodden in a natural wine vat, so will the armies of Anti-Christ be trodden by Jesus Christ. The Scriptures here reveal the startling distance this battle will cover —1600 furlongs or about 176 miles.

2) Revelation 16:12-16"And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon."

Here are some key points in Chapter 16 that I think are very interesting. First, we see the great river Euphrates will be dried up so the kings of the East or the Orient can easily pass through it. I believe at this time the armies of Anti-Christ are being prepared for the time of Armageddon. We also have these supernatural demonic spirits like frogs that will go throughout the world to gather men for the Battle of Armageddon. I will discussed these demonic spirits in more detail in another section.

3) Revelation 17:12-14"These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful."

Here, in chapter 17, we see the prophesied end to the Battle of Armageddon. Jesus Christ will defeat the Anti-Christ and his armies. Anti-Christ is only given a short time to reign. His days of rule are limited to a seven year duration. One other important thing to note is that the armies that are with Christ are the Called, the Chosen, and the Faithful. Those who come back with Jesus Christ in His Second Coming will only be the redeemed.

4) Revelation 19:15-21"And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh."

Here, in chapter 19, we see the complete picture of the Second Coming of Christ, resulting in the Battle of Armageddon. We see Christ coming in all of His wrath and glory with His army following Him on white horses. Jesus is pictured here as a man of war, judging in righteousness with the sword of His mouth. We see Him taking authority in the earth and removing the kingdom and reign of Anti-Christ. The Anti-Christ and False Prophet will be judged and eternally damned. All kinds of birds of prey will be gathered to eat the flesh of wicked men who perished in this battle. Armageddon will be like no other war in history. The Scriptures declare that men will mourn because of Jesus' return.

5) Isaiah 63:1-4"Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come."

Dr. Chuck Missler states in his book, Prophecy 20/20, regarding the Second Coming of Christ and the Battle of Armageddon:

"If this battle wasn't stopped, all mankind would be destroyed; however, the Lord interrupts it, at Petra in Edom, fighting for His remnant of believers. He is described as covered with the blood of His enemies:"
"From Bozrah to The Valley of Jehoshaphat.
"The Antichrist is powerless before Christ. His armies are destroyed at Bozrah and then Megiddo. From Bozrah to Megiddo is 176 miles (1,600 furlongs)."

When will this Battle take place?

Now, the timing of this great battle is crucial to understanding it. Knowing this will help to keep you from being confused by all the hype that the news media erroneously reports about the Battle of Armageddon. The scripture describes four specific time references that clearly frame the timing of this event.

1) Immediately after the Great Tribulation
Matthew 24:28-30 "For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken."

2) After the Marriage Supper of the Lamb
Revelation 19:7-21. "Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, write, 'Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb' And he saith unto me, 'These are the true sayings of God.'"

3) At The Second Coming of Jesus Christ
Revelation 19:11. "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war."

4) Before the Millennium Period and before Satan is bound in the Bottomless Pit
Revelation 20:1-7. "And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season."

Where will this Battle take place?

Another crucial key in understanding this Battle is to know where this event will take place. This is a geographical battle. Knowing this will help to remove a lot of false teaching. Some believe and have taught that Armageddon will happen here in America. This is so far from the truth of God's word. This battle has been prophesied to take place in the Middle East in the land of Israel.

Revelation 16:16, "And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon."

The oval-shaped valley, also known as Megiddo, is now commonly known as the Valley of Jezreel. Megiddo is located near the point of entry into the Jezreel Valley. It is the most important passage through the Carmel range. It controlled the "Way of the Sea". This important highway was the ancient trade route between Egypt and Mesopotamia. In addition to invading armies, traders from all over the world passed by its walls and probably through its gates.

The Battle of Armageddon: A One Day Battle!

Zechariah 14:6-7, "And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark: But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light."

This verse in Zechariah, alludes to the glorious event of when Jesus Christ comes and the circumstances that surround His Second Coming. This battle will not be a campaign that will last for several months or even days. He only needs one day to accomplish His mission. Think about it, this is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings who is fighting at this time. This battle will be precisely executed by the unadulterated power of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Scriptures declare that when Jesus return, He is coming in the power of His Glory.

2 Thessalonians 2:8, "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming."

Who are the Armies and How will they get there?

There will be two great opposing armies assembled for the Battle of Armageddon. The army of Jesus Christ who is coming back with Him out of Heaven. And the armies of the Anti-Christ, who will be supernaturally drawn to this battle. They will come from all over the world and be gathered together into the Valley of Megiddo.

Let's look at armies who will participate in this battle.

A) The Armies of Jesus Christ
The armies of Jesus Christ will be comprised of the Saints who were Raptured and the Angelic Host of Heaven.

1) Revelation 19:14, "And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean."

2) Jude 1:14-15, "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him."

3) 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9, "And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels. In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power."

B) The Armies of Anti-Christ
The armies of Anti-Christ will be comprised of the kings of the earth, bond and free. Many of which who have received the Mark of the Beast. This army will be a mass group of rebels who have formed an alliance with Anti-Christ.

1) Revelation 19:19, "And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army."

2) Revelation 17:12,13, "And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast."

Now, we'll look at how these armies will get to this great battle field.

Armies of Jesus Christ

We know from our study of the Second Coming that the armies that are coming with Jesus Christ will be comprised of the Saints who were Raptured and the Angels of Heaven.

1) 1 Thessalonians 3:13, "To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints."

2) Matthew 25:31, "When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory."

Armies of Anti-Christ

The armies of the world will be gathered to join forces with the Anti-Christ. To see this gathering in the Scriptures we will have to dispelled a teaching that has been taught in the church for many years. In Luke 17:34-37, we find this phrase, "the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left." I will go into much detail when we look closer at these verses. This text has been commonly attributed to the Rapture. In proper context it has nothing to do with the Rapture at all and everything to do with the Battle of Armageddon.

One Taken and the Other Left

Luke 17:34-37, "I tell you, in that night there shall be two in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left."

Here is where we stop reading when it comes to this text. We have been taught that this is a Rapture text because one is taken and one is left. But we must go and little further and question Jesus, like the Disciples did and find out where those taken went? Let's pick up the text in verse thirty-seven. This verse gives us a major clue as to what Jesus was giving reference to.

Luke 17:37, "And they answered and said unto him, 'Where, Lord?' And he said unto them, 'Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.'"

Some of the modern translations render the verse this way:

New American Standard Bible
Luke 17:37, "And answering they said to Him, "Where, Lord?" And He said to them, "Where the body is, there also the vultures will be gathered."

New International Version
Luke 17:37, "Where, Lord? They asked. He replied, "where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather."

Jesus is telling his disciples that those who are taken at this time will be taken to a place where their dead bodies will be eaten by the vultures. I believe that Jesus is giving a prophetic prophecy about those who will be gathered supernaturally for the Battle of Armageddon. Let's look at other text that supports this belief.

Matthew 24:27-29, "For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory."

Here, Jesus is using the same text to let us know the timing of the events of Luke 34-37. He mentions that, at His Coming, the carcases of men will be gathered and eaten by eagles (vultures). This event takes place immediately after the tribulation of those days. Here is a direct connection to the Second Coming and the Battle of Armageddon. Let us go a little further with the Scriptures to see it even clearer.

1) Revelation 16:12-16, "And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty... And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon."

Here, at the pouring out of the Sixth Vial Judgment in the latter half of the Great Tribulation Period, three unclean spirits will be released out of the mouths of the Dragon (Satan), the Beast (Anti-Christ), and the False Prophet. These are three demonic spirits. They are demonic spirits that are on assignment to go throughout the whole world the gather men for the Battle of Armageddon. I believe, at this time, the ungodly will be supernaturally influence by these demonic spirits and will be drawn to the place of Armageddon to join with the Anti-Christ to comprise his army. There they will be destroyed by Jesus Christ and their dead bodies will be eaten by vultures. Therefore, the context of Luke 17:34-37, has nothing to do with the Rapture. It is a prophecy of the ungodly being supernaturally gathered as part of the army of Anti-Christ for the Battle of Armageddon. Look at Revelation 19:17-18.

2) Revelation 19:17-18, "And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; That ye may eat the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great."

At the Battle of Armageddon, Jesus is coming as a Man of War to judge the Anti-Christ and his armies. He will cast the Anti-Christ and False Prophet alive into the Lake of Fire. And, the remnant of Anti-Christ's armies will be eaten by the birds of prey.

3) Revelation 19:20-21, "And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh."

What will the Battle of Armageddon Accomplish?

The Battle of Armageddon will accomplish many things in the overall program of God. Below is a list or summary of what we have just seen in the Scriptures about this awesome event that will happen in the future.

1) Deliver national Israel from total destruction by the Anti-Christ. (Daniel 7:26,27; Zechariah 14:12; Matthew 24:22)

2) Punish the Nations for their sins. (Matthew 25:31-46; Zechariah 12:3; Revelation 16:13-16; 19:19-21.)

3) Judge those who have received the Mark of the Beast. (Revelation 14:9-11; Revelation 19:20,21)

4) Judge the ungodly on the earth. (Psalm 96:13; Jude 1:14,15; Revelation 19:21)

5) Bring an end to the Anti-Christ's Kingdom. (Revelation 19:19; 2 Thessalonians 2:8,9)

6) The Fowls of Heaven will eat the flesh of Men. (Revelation 19:17-21; Matthew 24:28; Luke 17:37)

7) Blood shed up to the horses bridle. (Revelation 14:20)

8) Anti-Christ & False Prophet cast alive into the Lake of Fire. (Revelation 19:19,20)

9) Satan will be bound and cast into the Bottomless Pit. (Revelation 20:1-3,7)

10) Set up the Millennial Kingdom of Jesus Christ. (Daniel 2:44; 7:14,27; Revelation 20:4-6)

Ministers Ponder Creation of EU Super-President

August Rosado

What Lamb & Lion Means To Me

August Rosado: I want to say congratulations to the Dr. Dave Reagan and the staff of Lamb & Lion Ministries for their 1,000th article. The ministry has been a blessing to me in helping me to understand the plain sense teaching of the prophetic word of God. What I appreciate about Lamb & Lion is that they are not about hype and sensationalism, but educating the body of Messiah as to events in Israel, the Middle East, and the world, from a clear, literal interpretation from God's word. I have been following the ministry since 1989 and have read many of Dr. Reagan's books, and he has been a mentor to me. It was an honor to do a two-part TV program for the "Christ in Prophecy" show. Again, I say congratulations to Dr. Reagan, Nathan Jones, and the staff of Lamb & Lion Ministries. God bless!

Guest Article: "Ministers Ponder Creation of EU Super-President"

Talk about a page right out of Bible prophecy! A high ranking European Union official said that the EU is set to create a "Super President" position. The EU said that the new "Supremo" would have more powers than the current President, Herman Van Rompuy and Jose Manual Barrusso.

The EU says the "new figure" would streamline the European Commission into a two-tier structure. Every EU member State would still have their own Commissioner in all 27 countries. The new Super President would also chair General Affairs Council monthly meetings of Foreign Ministers which discuss internal affairs the EU.

In the 50's the Spokesperson for the European Union was Paul Henry Spaak. His statement still sends shockwaves in the prophetic world today:

"We don't want another committee, we have too many already, what we need is a man of sufficient stature, one who can hold the allegiance of the people, and take us out of this economical mess we are sinking into, send us such a man, and be he god or the devil, we will accept him."

A Great Statue

In Daniel 2:31-33, God gave Nebachednezzar king of Babylon a dream concerning a great image. This dream and image really concerned the king of Babylon, and with good reason, this image would spell the end of his Empire.

This image's body parts would represent a succession of world empires:

  • Head of Gold - Babylon
  • Breast & Arms of silver - Medes-Persians
  • Belly & Thighs of brass - Greece
  • Legs of Iron - Rome
  • Feet of Iron and Clay - Revived Roman Empire

Four Beasts

Fifty years after the king of Babylon's dream, Daniel received a vision concerning four beasts. As with the great image of Daniel 2, these beast also represent world empires, (Daniel 7:1-8):

  • Lion - Babylon
  • Bear - Medes-Persians
  • Leopard - Greece
  • Forth Beast - Unidentified, but is Rome

Ten Horns

Daniel 7:7 tells us out of the Roman Empire will arise ten horns from a future Revived Roman Empire. Verse 8 says a "little horn" will come out of these ten horns — a future Empire. This would be the Gentile world ruler described in Revelation 13:1 as the Antichrist.

These ten horns are described by Daniel in 7:7-8,20,24 and the Apostle John in Revelation 12:3; 13:1; 17:3,7,12,16. These horns will be a strong global ten-nation confederacy that will give global authority to the Man of Sin when he appears on the world scene (1 Jn. 2:18).

The Great Stone

Daniel 2:34 tells us that this final Gentile world empire — the image in Daniel 2 — where the feet of iron and clay is the final world empire, will be destroyed by a great stone. This stone is the Lord Jesus the Jewish Messiah who will defeat the Antichrist and False Prophet and cast them into the lake of fire (Rev. 19:19-20).

This stone will become great and fill the whole earth. This is referring to the 1,000-year Millennial Kingdom reign of Jesus recorded in Revelation 20:2-7. At this time Satan is confined to the bottomless pit for the duration of the Millennium, and then will be released. Satan will meet his eternal doom when he is finally cast in to the Lake of Fire (Rev. 20:10).

Set Stage

With this current event unfolding in the European Union, and their goal to create a powerful "Super-President" position which could be the position the Antichrist himself could take over, it is setting the stage for Bible prophecy to be fulfilled.

The next event soon is the Rapture of the Church. Jesus could return at any moment. Let us keep looking to the heavens, anticipating the sound of the trumpet. We can almost hear it! Maranatha!

The Rapture in the Old Testament

Jim Tetlow

What Lamb & Lion Means To Me

Jim Tetlow: Lamb & Lion Ministries is a wonderful and encouraging prophecy ministry. Dr. David's love and urgency to share God's Word and declare man's only Blessed Hope — Jesus Christ — is contagious. Lamb & Lion is biblically balanced, eternally focused and a beacon of Hope during these final moments.

Guest Article: "The Rapture in the Old Testament"

Perhaps some of the strongest arguments in favor of a Pre-Tribulation or Pre-Seventieth Week of Daniel Rapture are found in the Old Testament. In the Old Testament we see "a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things" (Hebrews 10:1).

Prophetic Types in the Old Testament

The Holy Spirit explains that these Old Testament types are preserved for our learning:

"For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope" (Romans 15:4).
"Now all these things happened to them (Old Testament characters) as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come" (1 Corinthians 10:11).

Bible students are well aware that there are numerous Old Testament types that foreshadow a New Testament fulfillment. A classic example is when Abraham took his son, his only son Isaac, whom he greatly loved, to the land of Moriah to offer him there as a sacrifice — concluding that God was able to raise him from the dead (Genesis 22; Hebrews 11:17-19). Abraham is a beautiful type of our heavenly Father, and Isaac, his beloved son, is a striking picture of Jesus, who willingly laid down His life on Mount Moriah 2,000 years later.

Though the Rapture was hidden in part from Old Testament believers, the types found throughout foreshadow a future Rapture when God will remove His people prior to pouring out His wrath on a Christ-rejecting world. Let's now review some of these beautiful types that foreshadow the Rapture.

The Noahic Flood

In Noah's day there were those who passed through the flood (Noah and his family in the ark); there were those who perished in the flood (the unbelieving world); and there was Enoch who was "translated" or "caught up" before the judgment of God was poured out. Enoch walked with God (Genesis 5:24) and pleased Him (Hebrews 11:5), just as Christians who abide in Christ please God (1 John 3:22). Interestingly, from the time God told Noah to enter the ark, until the time when the waters of the flood were on the earth, God granted seven more days for the world to repent (Genesis 7:1-10). Perhaps this is a foreshadow of the final seven-year period culminating in the final judgment (Revelation 19:11-21)?

The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah

In Lot's day, he and his family were "removed" before God rained down His judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19). God did not just "preserve" them through His wrath, He removed them prior to judgment. Jesus said that just before His return it would be like the days of Noah (Luke 17:26) and like the days of Lot (Luke 17:28).

Judgment in Sodom could not occur until Lot was removed (Genesis 19:22)! Remarkably, "while [Lot] lingered, the [angels] took hold of his hand, his wife's hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city... Hurry, escape there. For I cannot do anything until you arrive there" (v. 16, 22). In other words, they were forcibly removed prior to judgment and judgment could not commence until they safely arrived in the new city!

The Story of Joseph

Joseph (a type of Christ in many ways) takes a Gentile bride before the 7 year famine begins (Genesis 41:45). Notice in the account of Joseph that after he received his Gentile bride, his brethren (the Israelites) and the entire world suffered a seven year famine (Genesis 41:54-57). During this time of famine many came to Joseph for food. Similarly, after Jesus receives His Bride, his brethren the Jews (and many in the world), will turn to the Lord Jesus for relief (Revelation 7).

How fitting that the Great Tribulation is called "the time of Jacob's trouble, but he shall be saved out of it" (Jeremiah 30:7). It is also referred to as "the time of the Gentiles" (Ezekiel 30:3), and many Gentiles will also be saved out of it (Revelation 7). The famine is a type of the Tribulation (Amos 8:11), and Egypt is a picture of the world. This account strongly suggests that Jesus will receive His bride before the 70th Week of Daniel — before the famine that will come upon the entire world.

Rahab and the Jewish Spies

In Joshua chapter 2, Rahab trusts the Lord and befriends the Jewish spies. By faith Rahab puts a scarlet thread in her window (a symbol of Christ's blood) and she and her family are "brought out" of Jericho before the city is burned with fire (Joshua 6). Rahab is a prostitute (Hebrews 11:31) and a Gentile woman (Joshua 2), yet she is found in the Messianic line (Matthew 1:5). Rahab is therefore a beautiful picture of the Church as the bride of Christ. Though formerly a prostitute, Rahab, by faith, was made clean and delivered from God's wrath. Amazingly, in this account, we again see seven days of warning preceding judgment (God's gracious delay to encourage repentance). The armies of God marched around the city six days, and on the seventh day they marched around the city seven times, and then the city was finally destroyed (Joshua 6).

Abigail and David

In 1 Samuel 25:39-42 Abigail is informed that King David (foreshadowing King Jesus) wants to take her as his bride. She immediately responds and "rose in haste" with five of her damsels to "depart" and go to David for the marriage. Compare this with Matthew 25:1-13 where five wise virgins who truly had oil went forth to meet the Bridegroom (Jesus) away from their dwelling place (earth). Interestingly, the name Abigail means "the Father's joy."

Solomon's Song

The Song of Solomon is an amazing picture of Christ and His Church (Ephesians 5:29-32). In the Song of Solomon 2:8-13, the Bride (the Church) hears the voice of her Beloved (Jesus) coming for her. Then, in verses 10 and 13, the Bridegroom speaks and calls His bride to "Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away." This is a beautiful foreshadow of our marriage and honeymoon in heaven!

Isaiah's Hint

Isaiah 26:20-21 also gives us a possible picture of the Rapture preceding the Tribulation:

"Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment, until the indignation is past. For behold, the LORD comes out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; the earth will also disclose her blood, and will no more cover her slain."

Apparently, believers are tucked away in Heaven before the Tribulation falls on the earth. Could this also apply to the Jews who hide away in Petra during the Tribulation?

The Prophet Daniel

In Daniel chapter 3, King Nebuchadnezzar (a type of the Antichrist, cf. Revelation 13) demands that the entire population bow down to his image. Daniel's three friends (Jews) are preserved through the fiery tribulation, but Daniel is nowhere to be found. Daniel was "ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief administrator over all the wise men of Babylon" (Daniel 2:48), yet he is missing from the account. Why? Daniel was apparently away. Might he be a type of the Church? Three times Daniel is called "greatly beloved" (Daniel 9:23; 10:11; 10:19).

Zephaniah's Clue

In Zephaniah 2:2-3 we read:

"Before the decree is issued, or the day passes like chaff, before the Lord's fierce anger comes upon you, before the day of the Lord's anger comes upon you! Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth, who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden in the day of the Lord's anger."

According to this passage, believers will be hidden in the day of the Lord's anger (cf. Isaiah 26:20-21. See also: Zephaniah 1:7.)

Malachi's Hint

Malachi chapter 3 deals with the Day of the Lord. Interestingly, Malachi 3:18 implies two comings of the Messiah: "Then shall ye (believers) return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not." It becomes clear when we read the entire context of Malachi 3 that believers shall return to the earth. In order to return and discern, believers must have first been caught away to Heaven.

Other Examples

Isaac and Rebekah, as well as Ruth and Boaz, also provide beautiful pictures of Christ taking a Gentile bride — one who counts the cost and leaves their own family — but is not required to suffer through great tribulation or famine. Other examples could be expounded on, but these should be sufficient to show that Christians will be removed before God's wrath is poured out and most likely before the 70th Week of Daniel.

Rapture Made Simple

Jack Hollingsworth

What Lamb & Lion Means To Me

Jack Hollingsworth: I'm not sure I can express with words what Lamb & Lion Ministries has meant to me over the years. I met Dave Reagan just a few weeks after I got saved and we have been friends ever since. But Dave has been so much more than just a friend and Lamb & Lion Ministries has been more like my family than anything else. They have encouraged me and in many ways, mentored me. Sally knew Dave from the beginning of Lamb & Lion in the 80's and when we formed Acts 29 Ministry in 1993 and stepped out in faith, it was Lamb & Lion and Dave who were there. We certainly give God all the praise and glory. Had He not put Dave and Lamb & Lion in our lives, we wouldn't be where we are today. Thank you, Heavenly Father and thank you, Lamb & Lion Ministries! We love you Lamb & Lion family!

Guest Article: "Rapture Made Simple"

"v-16 For the Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: v-17 then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. V-18 Wherefore comfort (cheer) one another with these words." - 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

Let me start by saying, in Heaven the Rapture is going to be a big deal. There's a lot of excitement concerning the calling of the Bride of Christ. The triune God and all the angels will be involved.

It will be witnessed by people on the earth. Acts 1:9-11 confirms that this same Jesus, in the same manner will return in the clouds. But this time when He comes, it will be with a shout. But not just any shout, a shout calling the one He is there for.

In John chapter 11, Jesus went to Lazarus' grave in the cemetery and spoke with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!" In the same manner will He identify His Bride, call Her by name, when He descends in the clouds. He is not coming for everyone and as He said in John 10, He knows us by name and we know His voice. Maybe He will call corporately, maybe individually (Nathan! Dave! Jack!) — it won't matter at that time. He is coming for us, His Bride, not the rest of the world. He has told us who will go and who He knows by name and who He will return for. Thus, the shout. Jesus is not ashamed of His Bride and He will not "sneak Her away." He'll take Her proudly, publicly!

And the voice of the archangel will be none other than God's mighty General giving the order for the angelic host to escort the Bride. Matthew chapter 18 confirms that you really do have a guardian angel, assigned to you by God and just as the poor man who died and was escorted by the angels to paradise, how much greater an event will be the escort of the Bride of Christ!

Check out the account in Luke 16:20. Gabriel will not be blowing the trumpet. It is not his to blow, and besides, he isn't qualified. The only time I'm aware of angels sounding trumpets will be very destructive in the seven trumpets of Revelation. It says "with the trump (trumpet) of God." That's God's trumpet, not Gabriel's.

I'm telling you, it is going to be a big deal. God, the Father is coming too. Jesus is coming from the clouds. God rides upon the great clouds!

Zechariah 9:14, what a beautiful picture of God with Israel and the Church, and it definitely tells whose trumpet and how God uses the trumpet to shut down any idea of movement or opposition when He shows up. Read in Exodus 18 where the trumpet sounded and everything and everyone was terrified. Well, when Jesus comes for His bride, His Majesty will be with Him and the trumpet announces the presence of God Almighty and nothing will be able to move or interfere. I'm telling you, when Creator God arrives anywhere it is heralded by His trumpet and nothing moves or squeaks without His say so.

"And the dead IN CHRIST will rise first." Paul is qualifying who is eligible to be called. Only those in Christ, the saved, blood bought, born again will respond to the call. Just as in the cemetery, only Lazarus responded because he was called by name. Jesus was not talking to all the people in the cemetery, He was talking to Lazarus. On the day of the calling, snatching up, of the bride and Jesus shouts toward the earth, He will not be talking to everyone, just the bride. Paul goes on to say that those of us who are alive and remain will be caught together in the air. There again, he is identifying those who will go.

There will be billions of people remaining on the earth at that time, but notice he says that only those who are ALIVE and remain. Sadly, for all those who are not saved remain dead in their sins. In His sight they are dead and they will not go when Jesus calls out His Bride.

Like I said, it is going to be a big deal! All of Heaven is excited and will be involved in the calling of the Bride! God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, and all the holy Angels are coming to welcome us home to personally greet us and escort us into the glorious promise awaiting. Encourage one another!

Why Bless Israel?

Brian Thomas

What Lamb & Lion Means To Me

Brian Thomas: Lamb & Lion Ministries played an involuntary role in my calling into the ministry. After accepting the Lord's call to spread the gospel, I was unsure as to what direction He would have me to go (pastor, teacher, evangelist, etc). I've always have a strong craving for Bible prophecy since my childhood and well after waiting months for the Lord's direction, I was going through my daily routine of searching for Bible prophecy articles online. I came across one from lamblion.com that I liked so much. I emailed it to my wife. Upon receiving my message, she immediately called my office and asked, "Have you ever considered becoming a web minister?" To which I replied, "I never have, but I think it is an excellent idea!" And so within a matter of days, Blessings to Israel Ministries was founded. It was through seeing Nathan's role as Web Minister that gave us the inspiration.

Congratulations on the 1,000th blog and it is my prayer that the Lord continues to use Dr. Reagan, Nathan Jones and the entire L&L staff to inspire others to claim His soon return! You all have been a tremendous blessing to me. Maranatha!

Guest Article: "Why Bless Israel?"

Why bless Israel? When God made the covenant with Abraham, He spoke the following, "I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed"( Genesis 12:3). God was not only referring to Abraham as an individual, He was also referring to Abraham's descendants, which are the Jews. Therefore, we are commanded to not only bless the physical nation of Israel in the Middle East, but to also bless all Jews throughout the world. When God made His promise to Abraham, He also made a promise to the entire world that He would bless anyone that blesses Israel.

Abrahamic Covenant

The covenant that God made with Abraham is recorded in Genesis. God made an everlasting covenant that is unconditional in nature.

"On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: 'To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates — the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.'" (Genesis 15:18-21)
"And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you." (Genesis 17:7)

These scriptures make it clear that the land in the Middle East between the Nile and the Euphrates rivers was given to the Jews as a gift from God. This land is known in the Bible as the Promised Land.

The entire world is now coming together against Israel to pressure them into surrendering their land to the Palestinians. But the land does not belong to the Palestinians, it rightfully belongs to the Jews based on God's covenant. Therefore, we should always support Israel and oppose division of the Holy Land.

Many nations, including the United States of America, have adopted foreign policies for a two-state solution in what they believe is necessary for peace. That means dividing God's chosen nation and Holy City between the Jews and Palestinians. God sternly warned that He would bring judgment upon nations that do so, "I will also gather all nations, And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; And I will enter into judgment with them there On account of My people, My heritage Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; They have also divided up My land" (Joel 3:2). We must pray that the leaders of our nations turn away from this division of God's land to avoid judgment.

The Apple of God's Eye

The prophet Zechariah revealed that the physical descendants of Abraham (the entire Jewish nation) are the "apple of God's eye", "For thus says the LORD of hosts: 'He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye'" (Zechariah 2:8). This term of endearment by God is not used to describe any other nation in the world.

Zechariah goes on to provide another revelation in the same chapter, "Many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and they shall become My people. And I will dwell in your midst. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you" (Zechariah 2:11). Non-Jews can find great joy in knowing that all who accept Christ will be joined with the "apple of God's eye'" The Apostle Paul stated that Gentiles who accept Christ are "grafted" spiritually into the Jewish nation and become a part of God's chosen people (Romans 11:11-36). The Apostle Paul also stated the order in which salvation comes to the world, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek" (Romans 1:16).

Replacement Theology

A great satanic deception has invaded the Christian Church with many teaching that God's covenant with Israel no longer exists. The theory is that because Israel rejected Christ as the Messiah (Romans 9), God took His promises from the Jews and gave them to the Gentiles. It is true that God brought salvation to the Gentiles due to the stumble of the Jews, "I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles" (Romans 11:11).

The preceding scripture makes it clear that God did not cast away the Jewish nation and replace them with the Gentiles, often referred to as the Church. The Apostle Paul reveals that the Church was grafted into God's chosen people, but never replaced Israel (Romans 11:11-27).

The Jews were driven away from the Promised Land and scattered throughout the world as punishment for disobedience to God and rejection of Christ (Ezekiel 5:10). This scattering of the Jews began in 70 AD when the Romans attacked Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple.

God stated that He would punish the Jews but not completely destroy them (Jeremiah 30:11). He also promised that He would bring the nation of Israel back into their Promised Land someday, revealed to the prophet Ezekiel in the Valley of Dry Bones vision, "Then He said to me, 'Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say, 'Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!' Therefore prophesy and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves. I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken it and performed it," says the LORD'" (Ezekiel 11-14). As God is always true to His word, the Jews have returned to physical Israel and the Jewish nation was officially reborn into a nation on May 14, 1948.

This is proof that the Church never replaced Israel. The teaching that all New Testament references to Israel actually mean spiritual Israel as the Church is nothing but a false doctrine. God is faithful to His people and the regathering of the Jews to the Holy Land continue even today.

Another reason that we should bless the Jewish nation of Israel is because our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was brought into the world through the Jews. Jesus lived in Israel while on earth as a Jew as were 11 of His disciples.

His ancestors were of the house of Judah, also known as the Throne of King David. The scripture refers to Jesus as King of the Jews, "Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, 'Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him'" (Matthew 2:1-2). Jesus also spoke that He was King of the Jews, "Now Jesus stood before the governor. And the governor asked Him, saying, 'Are You the King of the Jews?' Jesus said to him, 'It is as you say'" (Matthew 27:11).

God's word also declares that Jesus will return to earth someday to rule and reign from Jerusalem (Zechariah 1:16, 8:3, 14:4, 14:16). He will not return to New York, London or Washington DC, but He will return to Jerusalem to sit on the throne as King of kings and Lord of lords. Therefore, we should look to Israel with eagerness in anticipation of the return of our Lord.

Anyone who loves the Lord cannot truthfully love Him without loving the nation of Israel.

God's Prophetic Time-clock

The nation of Israel is God's prophetic time-clock. Jesus stated that when we see certain things happen concerning the nation of Israel, we should know His return is near.

"Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near — at the doors!" (Matthew 24:32-33)
"And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled." (Luke 21:24)

The prophecy of the fig tree was fulfilled on May 14, 1948 when Israel once again became a nation. The times of the Gentiles in Jerusalem were fulfilled in June 1967. In that year, Israel regained control of Jerusalem in the Six-Day War. The Gentiles had possessed control of Jerusalem for centuries until that date. These are just two of many Bible prophecies that center around the great nation of Israel.

The Eternal Home

The New Jerusalem will be the eternal home for all who receive salvation. We will serve a Jewish Lord and worship Him in the new Holy City. The New Jerusalem will descend from heaven (Revelation 21:2) and come down to the new earth. The city will be glorious with precious stones, streets of transparent pure gold, and gates named after the twelve tribes of Israel (Revelation 21:9-21). The city will not need the light from the sun as the glory of God Almighty (Who will dwell there) will be its illumination and Jesus Christ will live in the city (Revelation 21:22-23). We will live in perfect peace in the presence of our Lord forever and ever (Revelation 22:5). Our future eternal home will be in the New Jerusalem in Israel.

How to Bless Israel

We must remember the scripture from Genesis 12:3 in which God states He will bless those that bless Israel. There are many ways to bless God's Holy nation.

  1. We are instructed to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: 'May they prosper who love you'" (Psalm 122:6). Those that pray for Jerusalem will prosper.
  2. Educate your church by encouraging prayer for Israel, deliver teachings on Israel, and create support groups.
  3. Display the Israel flag at your home, church, or ministry as a sign of support and love.
  4. Do not support political legislation that divides Jerusalem or Israel. Division of God's land is forbidden in Joel 3:2.
  5. Donate to organizations that have been created to assist Jews with returning to Israel from foreign lands. You can also donate to help Jews who are already living in Israel as many are living below poverty. There are many credible organizations that serve this purpose but diligently research them to determine what they support and believe before donating or you may contact our ministry at mail@blessingstoisrael.com for a list of organizations.

The Jewish people are a great and holy nation that we should bless and be grateful for. Blessing Abraham and his descendants honors the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob — the very Lord whom Christians claim as their God and Father of Jesus Christ. God told Abraham that all nations would be blessed because of Israel. And all have been blessed with the opportunity for eternal life that was given by the King of the Jews, Jesus Christ. It is written, "You worship what you do not know, we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews" (John 4:22). The Christian Church should view Israel in the same way that God views them, as the "apple of our eyes."

We look forward to the day that our Lord Jesus Christ will rule and reign from Jerusalem. Until then, we pray for the Peace of Jerusalem, blessings over the great nation of Israel, and to the only wise God, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.

We Need a Sixth Fundamental in 2012

Tim LaHaye

What Lamb & Lion Means To Me

Tim LaHaye: Nathan, congratulations on the great milestone of producing over 1,000 articles in your prophecy blog. I have long enjoyed your vision and faith to use every technology available as the vehicle to the mind with your faithful message warning millions to prepare to meet their God before the Rapture so they will not be left behind... and that you faithfully use your considerable writing, researching and preaching gifts to His glory. It is an honor to be your friend and colleague in spreading "the gospel of our great God" who has promised many times to return and take us to Heaven (John 14:1-6).

Guest Article: "We Need a Sixth Fundamental in 2012"

My friend and editor of the thriving WORLD magazine that is attuned to the news most Christians want to read today has written an excellent article in the January issue on what constitutes "fundamentalists" of yester year and those of the secular media. In it he quotes the brilliant theologian J. Gresham Machen, the Presbyterian and reformed scholar who defined the "five fundamentals" written shortly after the turn of the century, around the 1920s.

A study of religious life in America during those days disclosed the gross liberalizing of many denominational seminaries, particularly in what the media calls the "main-line" churches. He defined the minimum core beliefs of the fundamental church as follows:

"…the inspiration and inerrancy of the Bible, the virgin birth of Christ, the atoning work of Jesus' death, the physical resurrection of Jesus, and the historical reality of Christ's miracles. Those 'fundamentals' were seen by orthodox believers as foundational to their Christian faith — as the girders on which the rest of the structure rested."1

Machen was a great defender of the faith, particularly the inspiration of Scripture and the virgin birth of Jesus. Some of his debates with liberals in his own denomination were legends for most of us who attended conservative Christian colleges, Bible schools, and seminaries. I shudder to think what Christianity would be today had Machen and his generation of fundamentalist preachers, scholars, writers, and those in higher Christian education not taken up the cudgel and fought the battles of the pre-60s wars that caused the liberal theologians and secular media to taunt, distort, and degrade them so. The voice of true Christianity would have all but died had they not taken an aggressive stand for truth.

Fortunately, the Holy Spirit guided them and the many other men and women of God who took the Bible literally and built Bible-believing churches, Christian colleges, and faithful seminaries which sprang up helping to return the church into a vital force in America where today almost 70 million citizens openly claim to have had a "born again" experience with Jesus Christ. These Bible-believing churches are springing up everywhere, so much so that at election time this year many politicians openly seek the "evangelical" vote.

While we can gratefully thank God for their valiant work for Him during the first half of the last century, today's Church should take up the cause of the sixth fundamental they unfortunately omitted or neglected. That is the teaching of Jesus' Second Coming — His promise to rapture His saints to heaven before the seven years of Tribulation followed by His Glorious Appearing when the Savior will establish His Kingdom of peace over which He will rule as "King of Kings and Lord of Lords" for one thousand years. He will bind Satan for that entire period, after which it gets even better. He will take all His saints, or those who have put their faith in His sacrificial salvation for our sins, and take us all to heaven forever.

The reason I say this Second Coming teaching is an integral part of the cardinal doctrines of the early church is because it was the earliest teaching of the first century believers and has been since the days of the Apostle Paul. His first two books, I and II Thessalonians, may have been the first two books of the New Testament. It is thought by many scholars to have been written about eighteen years after Pentecost to the young church he founded in Thessalonica. It was a strong, Greek city filled with pagan religious thought. Paul ministered to these young Christians only three weeks before jealous Jews drove him from the city. Read all eight chapters and underline all the references to Christ's Second Coming, and you will find it mentioned in every chapter.

Dr. Mark Hitchcock has a new book on prophecy coming out soon in which he mentions that there are more than 300 references to the Lord's coming in the New Testament, which has only 260 chapters. Prophecy makes up twenty-eight percent of the Bible. There are over 300 prophecies concerning Christ's Second Coming in the New Testament — one out of every 30 verses. He also states that there are 109 prophecies of His first coming (which He fulfilled completely), yet there are 224 that forecast His Second Coming. Twenty-six books of the New Testament refer to the promise of His coming, and three of those were personal letters to individuals. The rest highlighted this important doctrine that was preached in the earliest days of the church.

I have read that every church counsel from the first century until today referred to our Lord's return. So I am on good ground referring to it as a cardinal doctrine of the Church that should have been included by Dr. Machen and his friends. We can understand his reluctance to bring this point up, for in the Reformed church it did not play an important position in their view of "the faith once delivered to the saints." Most reformed brothers have followed the line of Augustine who in the sixth century taught that while the Bible was to be taken literally, prophecy should be interpreted symbolically or allegorically — or spiritualized. Unfortunately, this tends to confuse the body of Christ about the all important fundamental teaching that He will come again as He promised and return us to His Father's House — John 14:1-3 and many other scriptures.

Personally, I think that is the reason so many believers have strayed into amillennialism or postmillennialism and even from midtribulationalism into posttribulationalism. These are hope-stealing, false teachings about prophecy based on the faulty idea that prophecy cannot be understood.

Which broaches the subject of how can Rev. 1:3 be fulfilled — that reading the Book of Revelation can be a blessing — if you cannot understand it? It can't! Why would God inspire the prophecies in the Bible unless they are for our understanding and edification? He wouldn't! This is why I believe the sixth fundamental of the faith should be the promise that Christ is going to keep His and the disciple's word by coming back one day as the apostle Paul described it in I Thess. 4:13-18 and again in I Cor. 15:50-58.

But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. (1 Thess. 4:13-18)
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed — in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory." "O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?" The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Cor. 15:50-58)

I have been in the ministry of the Lord for 65 years and have observed that those who have this "blessed Hope" in His return, and those churches that stand for and preach it as a cardinal doctrine of their life and that of their church have a fire in their heart to win others to Christ. This truth has an unparalleled effect on those who read, study, and chart their life course by it; they live a more evangelistic life and anticipate meeting their Lord in Heaven.

That could be this year.

Though it is doubtful, for Satan has already stirred up a drive through the Mayan calendar that ends in late December 2012. That cannot be right, for God alone knows the day and the hour when He will say to His Son, the Lord Jesus, what the songwriter coined in his great Second Coming song, "These are the days of Jehovah…Son, go gather My children!" He alone knows the day and the hour.

Eyewitnesses to the Times of the Signs

Jack Kinsella

What Lamb & Lion Means To Me

Jack Kinsella: We were thrilled when asked to contribute to the 1,000th column issue for Lamb & Lion Ministries. Lion & Lamb, and of course Dr. Reagan, are a great source of inspiration and discussion among our members in the Omega Letter Member's forum. His essays and teaching have helped answer many of the difficult questions regarding Scripture and Bible prophecy, both in our forums and well beyond. Lamb & Lion has blessed our members, their friends and our visitors. We are grateful for their faithfulness to Scripture in the face of so much empty sensationalism that is out there as we count down the days to the Trumpet. It is my prayer that the Lord will continue to bless Dr. Reagan and the ministry he founded and continue to prepare the Church for what is surely to come upon this generation. May He come quickly!

Guest Article: "Eyewitnesses to the Times of the Signs"

The Jerusalem Act

The Jerusalem Act, passed by Congress in 1995, has several key provisions that enshrine that commitment as a matter of law, rather than of foreign policy. It notes that every country designates its own capital, and that Israel has so designated Jerusalem, the spiritual center of Judaism.

It states that since the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967, religious freedom has been guaranteed to all. And it recalls several previous Congressional resolutions calling for the city to remain united.

The Act then states what henceforth will be not Congressional preferences but the official policy of the United States toward Jerusalem: that it should remain a united city in which the rights of every ethnic and religious group are protected; that it should be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel; and that the U.S. Embassy should be established there no later than May 31, 1999.

The Act gives the President the authority to suspend relocation of the US Embassy to Jerusalem, but only for a period of six months at a time. To suspend the provisions of the Jerusalem Act, the President must report to Congress that implementing it at this time would not be in the best interests of national security.

The administration has to do more than just invoke national security, the Act requires him to give details explaining how suspending the Act for another six months is in America's best interests. The Act had near unanimous support by both Houses and was overwhelming passed by the Senate (93-5) and by the House (374-37).

The United States is one of only three nations in the world that recognizes Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Only two nations actually relocated their embassies to Jerusalem — Costa Rica and El Salvador. (The Arab world severed relations with them both.)

The United Nations issued a 1997 report entitled "The Status of Jerusalem" that declares it an "international city" that should remain divided along the armistice lines of the Israel-Jordan Armistice Agreement of April 3, 1949.

As a consequence, the whole world opposes Israel's possession of Jerusalem, except for the United States.

Zechariah's Prophecy Concerning Jerusalem

This is exactly the scenario prophesied twenty-five hundred years ago by the Prophet Zechariah. The prophet Zechariah lived in the 6th century BC and was among those Babylonian exiles who returned to Judea after the seventy years of captivity prophesied by Jeremiah was completed around 536 BC. The book bearing his name divides itself into two major portions. Chapters 1-8 deal principally with events contemporary with the prophet, while chapters 9-14 sweep across the centuries, reaching all the way to the second coming of Christ at the end of history.

It is the prophet Zechariah who prophesied that in the last days, the world would be focused on Jerusalem and would be united against Israel's possession of the Holy City. The prophet Zechariah also predicted that any nation who "burdened themselves" with Jerusalem would be "cut in pieces." Portions of Zechariah's prophecies for the last days are already in the process of being fulfilled in our day.

At the present time, Israel's only ally is the United States. The United States, as a matter of national law, is committed to Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem, despite the policies of any sitting administration.

It was US support of Israel that was cited by Osama bin-Laden in his declaration of jihad against America, and it was US support of Israel that Osama claimed was the impetus behind the September 11 attacks and the subsequent war on terror.

Zechariah's Prophecy Concerning the Messiah

The prophet Zechariah also said that God Himself will stand with Israel, promising that, "he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David" (Zechariah 12:8) and that, "And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon Me WHOM THEY HAVE PIERCED, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn." (12:10)

That is pretty amazing stuff, when you think about it. Here is a Jewish prophet, living five centuries before the First Christmas, discussing the second coming of the Messiah Whom the prophet acknowledges was "pierced" by His Own people.

But for the most part, Zechariah's prophecies for the last days remain unfulfilled. But they will be. Zechariah's track record for specificity is unrivaled. Consider the following prophecy concerning the Lord at His First Advent: "And I said unto them, If ye think good, give Me My price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for My price thirty pieces of silver. And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD." (Zechariah 11:12-13)

Zechariah, speaking on behalf of the promised Messiah, makes the following points.

Zechariah speaks of haggling over His price, "If ye think good, give Me My price; and if not, forbear." Matthew records Judas haggling over the price for betraying Jesus, saying, "What will ye give me, and I will deliver Him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver." The term "covenanted" (suntithemi) means "to work out a mutually agreeable contract" — a negotiated settlement. Zechariah specified the metallic composition of the coinage by which the transaction would be made. It was neither gold nor copper, but rather, "silver" and Zechariah predicted the precise number of coins to be paid.

Zechariah's prophecy indicated that the money would be returned to the Jewish leaders, the custodians of "the house of God." Matthew's record reveals that Judas, in a swoon of regret, brought back the coinage to the chief priests and elders. But they would have none of it. Instead, they used the money to buy a "potter's field" to serve as a burial place for strangers.

And, the prophet indicated that in some way the silver coins were to be "cast" (thrown) into the "house of Jehovah." Zechariah has perfectly depicted the act of the betrayer. Judas "cast down the pieces of silver into the sanctuary" (Matthew 27:5).

An Awesome Responsibility

The detail, as already noted, is breathtaking, when one sits down to think about it. But in our day, so much of Bible prophecy seems to be on the cusp of its ultimate fulfillment that we tend to get a bit complacent about it.

Even among serious Christians with a love for His appearing, there is sometimes a sense of "so what" that replaces our earlier "gee whiz" attitude to the signs of our times.

"Knowing this first, that there shall come IN THE LAST DAYS scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of His coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation." (2 Peter 3:4-5)

Peter goes on, writing; "For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, BY THE SAME WORD are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men." (2 Peter 3:5-7)

The fact is, He IS coming back, and He IS coming back soon. This isn't a case of wishful thinking, or a hopeful interpretation of the signs of the times. We are living in the final hours of human history, and we have been given an awesome responsibility.

Every person that we meet in the course of our day-to-day lives has an eternal destiny. Either it will be spent in unspeakable joy in the presence of Christ, or it will be spent in unspeakable horror in the lake of fire.

And for all any of us know, we may be the only hope they have of learning the truth. Before it is too late.

Don't let yourself get complacent. The Bible is true and the Lord IS coming back — in this generation.
