Exponential Curve: Society and Natural Disasters

Dr. David R. ReaganPDFBy

In this fourth segment of our exploration of the Exponential Curve, we'll consider the terrible decline of society and marked increase in natural disasters.

8) Society — The disintegration of society has multiplied in speed as violence, wickedness and immorality have increased exponentially. Jesus prophesied this would happen when He said that end time society would be like it was in the days of Noah (Matthew 24:37-39), when violence and immorality prevailed (Genesis 6:11).

Paul prophesied about the disintegration of society in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 where he wrote that in the end times people would be lovers of self, lovers of money, and lovers of pleasure. The love of self is Humanism, and it is the religion of the world today, masquerading under many different labels. The love of money is Materialism, and money is the god of these times. The love of pleasure is Hedonism, and that is the prevalent lifestyle of today.

But God cannot be mocked or deceived. When a society makes Humanism its religion, Materialism its god, and Hedonism its lifestyle, there is always a payoff, and that is Nihilism, or despair. And thus it is no accident that we see societies around the world wallowing in despair.

I have witnessed the exponential decaying of society with my own eyes. I was born in 1938. When I was born:

  • Abortionists were sent to prison.
  • Pregnancy out of wedlock was thought of as scandalous.
  • Homosexuality was considered unnatural and immoral.
  • Pornography was despised as a perversion.
  • Marriage was sacred. Living together was taboo.
  • Divorce was a disgrace.
  • Homemaking was honored, and daycare was provided by mothers in their homes.
  • Child abuse was unheard of.
  • Ladies did not curse or smoke.
  • "Damn" was considered flagrant language in a movie. (A 1992 film called, "Glengarry Glen Ross," had the "f-word" in it 138 times in 100 minutes!)17

I could go on and on about the many ways in which our society (and societies around the world) have decided to "call evil good and good evil" (Isaiah 5:20). But the most dramatic way I can think of to illustrate how rapid the deterioration of society has become in America is to consider the results of two polls concerning public school discipline problems, one taken in the 1940s and the other in the 1980s. Both were taken in the Fullerton, California School District. Consider the drastically different results (and weep!):

The Top Public School Discipline Problems:
(Source: Time Magazine, February 1, 1988)

Mid-'40s

  1. Talking
  2. Chewing gum
  3. Making noise
  4. Running in the halls
  5. Getting out of turn in line
  6. Wearing improper clothing
  7. Not putting paper in wastebaskets

Mid-'80s

  1. Drug Abuse
  2. Alcohol Abuse
  3. Pregnancy
  4. Suicide
  5. Rape
  6. Robbery
  7. Assault

9) Natural Disasters — The Bible says that natural disasters will also be increasing exponentially in the end times, and that is exactly what is happening.

Consider these statistics for natural disasters within our nation between October 1991 and November 2004, a period of 13 years:18

9 of the 10 largest insurance events in US history.
5 of the costliest hurricanes in US history.
3 of the 4 largest tornado swarms in US history.

And all that was before Hurricane Katrina in 2005!

Putting together all types of natural disasters worldwide, you can see on the chart below how rapidly they are increasing, from an average of 300 per year in the 1980s to almost 1,000 in 2010.

Weather Chart

Incidentally, this is a better way of considering natural disasters, as opposed to plotting individual types of disasters. That's because one type of natural disaster can restrain another type.

Let me illustrate what I mean. Right now (2012) our nation is experiencing its worst drought in modern history, with over 61% of our nation affected.

But one side effect of the drought is that we are experiencing the lowest number of tornadoes in 60 years. After all, you can't have tornadoes without thunderstorms. The drought has also greatly reduced the amount of flooding.

In the fifth segment of our exploration of the Exponential Curve, we'll look at more examples and consider the diving economy, proliferation of world evangelism and the rapid developments in world politics.

Thank God I read Dr. Reagan's Political Manifesto a couple days ago. It helps me deal with tonight.

The time is NOW to trust ONLY in the LORD!

Forget all that is happening. It is the end times.

OUR HOPE IS WITH JESUS...PERIOD!

PLEASE COME QUICKLY LORD!

Billy said...

Lord,

I asked God for to guide me to an answer. I took out my Bible can turned to the following and read:

Luke 23:28-31

Jesus turned and said to them, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. For the time will come when you will say, "Blessed are the barren women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!" Then 'they will say to the mountains "Fall on us!" and to the hills, "Cover us!" For if men do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?"

I take from this that the time of the Gentiles is at the end. The focus will now be on Israel. The tribulation is upoh the world.

God is absolutely in control. I am at peace.

Thank you Lord! Please forgive me for my troubled heart. Let me do from this day forth as I did tonight...seek out peace in The Word.

I was moved to turn to Revelation 22 and read

Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murdereres, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.

Amen!!!!!!!!!!!

Susie,

I kinda figured before the election that in the end it didn't matter anyway, also. It doesn't. We ARE in the final days so do we REALLY care? No.

I'm just going to avoid the news for a looooooong time. I've had enough of all this. Feel like I've been carpet bombed for months now.

So, we wake up to GREAT NEWS!

We are one day closer to the Rapture!

Billy said...

Susie,

I also find great relief this morning as evil celebrates, God laughs!

We know something they don't know.

Billy,,,, AMEN & AMEN!!
.. Yeshua... we love u so... and know u r in control and coming for us soooon!!! Praise God!!

I rec'd a mailing for Jews for Jesus but didn't open it until now.

The newsletter inside says:

"In a little over two months we will inaugurate a newly-elected President of the United States of America. If you are reading this before November 6, you do not know who it will be - but you do know that he will begin serving his term of office on January 21, 2013.

It is the opposite with the true ruler of the free world, the Ding of Kings. We know exactly who He is; we just don't know exactly when He is coming.

Which event do we regard as more important?
..."

Thank the Lord I read the same message prior to the election in Dr. Reagan's Prophetic Manifesto and the one above this morning.

The Lord helped prepare me for this so that I would have the right perspective today. That was a blessing. Thank you, Lord!

While I'm literally wearing black (no sackcloth and ashes available ;) and in mourning that our country continues to vote what God calls evil as good, I'm reminded and comforted by Psalm 2:

1 Why do the nations conspire
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth take their stand
and the rulers gather together
against the Lord
and against his Anointed One.
3 "Let us break their chains," they say,
"and throw off their fetters."
4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then he rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6 "I have installed my King
on Zion, my holy hill."

I also recommend all believers in Christ to seize our day first by reading Strategy for Reclaiming the Christian Culture.

Nathan.. good reminders...
.. well do u think this event signifies gog/magog on the horizon? I dont mean to put u on the spot.. i know none of us knows exact details.. but i cant help but almost be glad b.o. won cuz it makes me feel like now ALL nations will turn on the Lords precious israel .. and soon our King will come for his bride.. :)

Susie said...

Im sorry.. that sounded so bad when i reread it... i find no joy in knowing what is happening to israel... but i feel deep joy in knowing that it means Yeshua is probably standing at the gates of heaven ready for the Father to give word to the angel to sound the trumpet...

Nathan Jones said...

Don't feel bad, Susie, for a short time of bad precedes an eternity of good. The way the Bible reads, to God it's already past tense.

The national alignment for Gog-Magog is pretty much there. Sudan's involvement solidified itself in the last week. That the rest of the world will just sit back and watch (Ezek. 38:13) means America won't get involved but wait to see what the outcome will be. Fitting behavior with this administration.

Susie said...

Thank u nathan.... i appreciate u not thinking bad of me ... this is a day of mixed feelings for sure. I need to educate myself more so i dont start feeling worried about the u.s. UNinvolvement ... and im sure judgment is to come soon on this country. I hope the Lord in his infinite mercy spare us who love him.

Billy, It seems you know how we feel and you are trying to help us understand.. I feel like I lost a friend I have to keep saying to myself... I haven't but this nation has turned their backs on Jesus. thank you so much. I have talked to some friends and they feel the same depression I feel. God gave us this great nation and now they are turning their backs on him.. Well I don't believe in Global Warming,, but I think we are in for some terrible weather... I am praying God will help us through it. But,,, then some of God's children do have tribulations too.. But God will be with us.

Anon.... i agree completely.... billy u r an awesome brother in the Lord.... u no... we have a strength here u guys... i think we all knew at some point america has Got to turn its back on israel too... its in the bk... no matter how hurtful it is... and it is.... we can reach forth to the joy we know in our hearts is on the way...
Praise God!!! I just pray its sooner than later!

Billy said...

Anon & Susie & Nathan & All (sounds like a bad movie title)

I was just as depressed, awake from 3:00-4:30 a.m., couldn't sleep.

It was The Word that got me through it AND being able to "talk" here to get my feelings out. My depression has since subsided and I am at peace ONLY because I am putting my complete trust in Jesus. I am grateful if my sharing of thoughts has been helpful to others and not just me.

In a way, all of this is good. We know we are at the end and time is short. Dr. Reagan has stressed Christians need to not only spread the Gospel but "commit themselves (us) to holiness. In practical terms, this means making Jesus the lord of everything in your life - your money, your job, your food, your entertainment - EVERYTHING." (from A Prophetic Manifesto by Dr. Reagan, pg. 30).

That is what I am working on more than anything at this time, trying to honor the Lord in by living a more holy life. Anon & Susie, you have said kind things about me, but please, I am just a wretched sinner saved by Jesus. I appreciate the comments but don't deserve them. Give all praise to our Lord!

Susie said...

I can only speak for myself billy, ... i do give all the glory to our Lord.... but he himself wishes deeply that we bless eachother and lift eachother up in him... so that is what im grateful for... ur fellowship and ur support in our precioua Yeshua.... l & l is a great place to be for many reasons...
... love to u all in out Lord Jesus.. Amen

Susie said...

AND ... btw.... i know in my heart that our Lord suffered a great.price to give us grace and i am sure he does not want any of us referring to ourselves as sinners ... we r the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!!! AMEN and AMEN!

Billy, wonderful words, Susie and Anon beautiful messages. I went through quite a bit of things, was in the hospital, went through hurricane, had to have surgery, stood in line 2 hours and my candidate lost (all of them). I do know that we have a loving Father who sent His Son to die for us, He took our place and shed His innocent blood for us. He is in control.
I'm continuing to pray for our Nation and Pat Roberson .

Susie said...

Jan, i pray the Lords shalom and healing touch for u this morning...

Psa 30:5 For his anger [endureth but] a moment; in his favour [is] life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy [cometh] in the morning.

I woke up this morning with this verse on my mind... and I feel lots better..

I think what I hate most is that Evil seems to be winning but God sees too.. I can't find it but there is also a verse that states that God sees the unjustice also and laughs or smiles... cant remember the words

Billy said...

Susie said "i know in my heart that our Lord suffered a great.price to give us grace and i am sure he does not want any of us referring to ourselves as sinners ... we r the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!!!"

Susie,

I'm struggling with that viewpoint. I know that I'm innocent in the eyes of God but at the same time I know that I'm guilty in my own eyes. God has fogotten my sin but I haven't for the following reason.

Being forgiven doesn't take away my sin nature while still in my mortal body. I still sin and likely will until I either die or am raptured. So until then I feel bad about it which causes me to feel guilty if someone compliments me. I feel like if I did something good it is because of the Lord, not me.

So for me it comes down to Matthew 5:16:

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Don't get me wrong, it's okay to be supportive, I appreciate that, it's just that if I have a shining light and do good deeds the glory belongs to our Heavenly Father.

Just wanted you to know where I'm coming from. Thanks for your kindness! I don't feel guilty about receiving Christian kindness and love.

God bless you!

Jan,

Thankful the Lord saw you through all that!

God bless.

Billy said...

Susie,

This portion of Romans 7 explains my struggle with sin better than I can:

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Billy said...

Susie,

The MOST important line is the last

"Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

Don't misunderstand me...though I struggle with my sin nature, I KNOW I am forgiven and my sins are forgotten through Jesus Christ.

Susie said...

Billy, i see where u r coming from and of course we all struggle with sin ...
Having said that... my statement above is 2cor 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we may be made the righteousness if God in him.
.... u see its not a viewpont that i have... it is grace.. and grace IS Jesus !!!!!! Praise God!!!
... u no .. about two years ago i started concentrating on my identity in Christ thru grace by faith and i have found that sin seems to just fall off out of my life little by little... not that i am "there" yet. Of course i know better. But i have grown alot closer to him and my prayer life is so rich now because i am more aware of the depths of his precious grace. Hallelujah!

Susie said...

Billy, just one more thought... i prayed eph 3:16-21 for u. I pray it for me all the time. I meditate on scripture often too and that brings me closer to Him...
Rom 6:14 jude 1:24,25 gal 5:24,24 gal 2: 20,21 2cor 9:8
Gal 6:14 and my all time favorite is phil 3:10-14
These r a few scriptures i love alot but please dont think im trying to offend u or anything. I love u in Yeshua billy! I think its real important to plumb God grace tho, it brings fruitful blessings.
... and builds faith :):):)

Susie,

Interesting thing happened. I was searching for a story in the Bible to reply to you re: my wrestling with sin and instead of finding the one I was looking for I came accross the woman who was about to be stoned.

I read:

Jesus straighten up and asked her "Woman, wher are they? Has no one condemned you?"

"No one, sir", she said.

"Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

It opened my eyes to see that I am actually the thrower of stones in this story...ironically, throwing them at myself!

Jesus is not throwing stones at me. "Then neither do I condemn you".

They why in world am I condemning myself???!!!

Thanks, Susie for your replies which led me to reconsider my self inflicted stoning (which is self destructive) and remember I am NOT condemned by my sin.

Plunk! (That was my stone dropping on the ground)

Thank you, Lord!

Susie said...

O billy!!! That is so beautiful! Thank you Lord for your Holy Spirit!!! Who teaches us these

Nathan Jones said...

Susie, Psalm 2 I believe is what you're looking for. Dr. Reagan wrote an article about the Psalm.

Susie said...

Nathan.. thanks! What an excellent article....
..... i did come accross this...... psalm 37: 11-13 ... but the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. 13 the Lord shall laugh at him: for He seeth that his day is coming.
... awesome!
