Israel as Proof of God's Existence: The Assault of Atheism

Dr. David R. ReaganPDFBy

In his book, I Never Thought I Would See the Day, David Jeremiah devotes an entire chapter to the increasingly vehement assault of Atheism.

He talks about how Atheists have become bolder and more blatant and vicious in their denials of God, their attacks on Christianity, and their claims that Jesus was simply either a misguided man or a myth.

He says they have become characterized by their arrogance and their anger. As evidence of their arrogance, he points out that in their literature today, Atheists refer to themselves as "The Brights," and they dismiss believers as "The Dims."

As an example of their anger, Jeremiah quotes a sentence taken from the book, The Divine Delusion, written by Richard Dawkins, one of Atheism's most vocal spokesmen:

The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.

This rising anger among Atheists, and their increasingly virulent attacks on God and Jesus is what prompted me to write a book called Jesus: The Lamb & The Lion. It is a study of Jesus in Bible prophecy and His fulfillment of it, proving that He really was who He claimed to be — namely, God in the flesh.

There is a certain sense in which these relentless attacks on God by the Atheists are downright amusing. That's because I find it ironical that the very people who deny God's existence are the very ones who are so obsessed with Him!

Can God's Existence Be Proved?

When I was growing up in the Church, I was repeatedly told that the existence of God cannot be proved. Rather, I was told it must be accepted by blind faith.

There is no doubt that to accept something that cannot be seen requires faith. But an acceptance of God's existence does not require blind faith, because the evidence of His existence is simply overwhelming.

Christian philosophers and theologians have developed many arguments for the existence of God, and they have given those arguments typical philosophical names, like:

  • The Ontological Argument
  • The Cosmological Argument
  • The Teleological Argument

But I want to mention only three proofs of the existence of God — three that are down-to-earth and easy to understand, three that I think are very convincing. They are:

  1. Changed Lives
  2. Design in Nature, and
  3. Israel in Bible Prophecy

In the second segment of our study of how Israel proves the existence of God, we'll pause first to look at the proof of changed lives.

Doc I admire your determination in doing the Lords work. I have had many a conversation with atheists about God using prophecy as proof. The only thing I was able to prove is that evidence, facts and common sence will not change a hateful heart. I firmly believe that many of these people would deny Christ if He showed up in person. The simple fact is they hate the truth because they love their sin. This is way I believe the great dillusion God fortold regarding the Anti - Christ will be so readily accepted. This increase in hate towards the Lord and Christians, to me, is just on more sign that time is closing.. When we look at global politics, the NWO, move to a new currency, natural disasters, etc. All the signs the Lord gave us are now at hand. This Athiest attitude is simply one more to add to the list. Even so, this does not relieve His children from spreading the gospel and confronting evil. Thus I look forward to your publication .....

I feel I should begin this comment with the admission that I am not now nor have I ever been a Christian. That said, I do not enter this discussion with the intent to debate theology as I consider such practices to be disrespectful.

My goal is to take the conversation back to the very beginning vis-a-vis the reason we modern theists acknowledge the existence of God in the first place, defining God as the first cause, as the source of all being.

Before the universe existed, there was darkness and void. Science tells us that for an effect to occur it must be preceeded by a cause. I do not see how one can reason that the universe created itself (like Stephen Hawking asserts) due to gravity or some such as without the universe there is no gravity in the first place.

Advanced physics is not necessary as basic math proves that zero plus zero will always equal zero; the first cause must always be God. QED
