What are the prophesied end times wars which will destroy most of the earth?
I was recently interviewed by Vic Batista, senior pastor of the Miami-based Calvary Chapel Aventura on his radio program "The Truth Will Set You Free" via TWave Radio. "Pastor Vic" (as he likes to be called) was born in the Dominican Republic and is as active in planting churches and helping orphans there as he is in southern Florida, reaching out with the Good News of Jesus Christ to both the English and Spanish speaking audiences.
In this "The Truth Will Set You Free" episode, we'll look at the second end times signs of wars found in Matthew 24:6-7.
The Wars of the Tribulation
Vic: Let's talk about the five wars that will happen during the Tribulation on this earth. You previously mentioned a sixth which occurs in Heaven when Satan tries and fails to capture God's throne. Satan's cast down to this earth at the midpoint of the Tribulation, and he knows his time is short, specifically 3.5 years. Revelation 6 begins the discussion about these end time prophetic wars. And, thankfully, Revelation chapters 14 and 19 declares that it is the Lord Jesus Christ who will be the one who is going to put an end to all this bloodshed.
Nathan: Right. Because the world is in for the worst time in human history, only Jesus Christ can save the world.
Revelation 6 describes the Conventional War of the Tribulation. This is when the Antichrist will be marching across the planet to conquer it. The passage reveals that a quarter of the world's population will die from this World War III. That's over 1.5 billion people in today's numbers! Just picture almost two billion people dying. This war will ravage the earth. It'll truly be like World War III.
The Conventional War will be followed by a nuclear war described in Revelation 8 and 9. The world over the last few decades has not been building up all these stores of nuclear bombs just to let them sit there. God has been holding nuclear devastation back to protect us from ourselves. We read how a third of the world is destroyed by this nuclear war, which is another third of the world's population dying. That again is nearly 1.5 billion people in today's numbers. So, by the middle of the Tribulation, because of all these world war half the world's population will be destroyed. It'll make the 20th Century seem like a school yard brawl.
Vic: 160 something million dying in the wars of the 20th Century compared to the billions that will die during these initial Tribulation wars is just astounding!
Nathan: God's restraining hand will be off the earth, and that leads man to do whatever sinful desire they wish. Satan during the Tribulation is also free to do as he wishes, and all he wants to do is steal, kill and destroy.
The Antichrist wants to be worshiped and so he will set himself up to be worshiped in the Jewish Temple. He'll break his peace treaty with Israel halfway through the Tribulation and then he'll spend the rest of his freedom obsessed with killing those who have accepted Jesus as Savior during the Tribulation. We'll call them the Tribulation Saints to differentiate them from the Church Age Saints of today. The Antichrist will kill two-thirds of the Jews across the planet and so many believers in Christ during that time that Revelation reveals the numbers will be seemingly uncountable. It'll be an obsession of his to kill Jews and Christians. That's what the fifth war is, a war against the Jews and the Saints.
Vic: Sadly, there are still more wars to come during the Tribulation, right?
Nathan: Yes, there will still three more wars to go. The Antichrist's empire starts falling apart because he is so focused on waring against the Tribulation Saints and Jews that he's not really paying attention to the other nations in his empire. That's when the the Kings of the East, which can only be China and Japan and all those others in the Asian block, will see an opportunity to rebel. The Antichrist in Daniel 11 is also dealing with a civil war in his kingdom and so goes on a Middle East campaign, and so he spends a lot of time fighting his own people. Then some bad news up in the north bothers him. He knows that Jesus is coming back exactly at the end of the seven years of Tribulation, so he goes up to the Valley of Jezreel in Israel and that's where we read about the final battle of Armageddon.
Joel 3, Zachariah 14 and Revelation 19 say that the world's armies are engaged in battle at the Valley of Jezreel. That's when Jesus finally comes back as promised. He returns with those of us who were Raptured before the Tribulation. Pastor Vic, you and I will be riding along behind Him. We will see Jesus return, but we won't actually be engaged in battle, for it'll be all Jesus. Jesus destroys those armies just by speaking a supernatural word. He's got that much power. He defeats the Antichrist and the false prophet and sends them to Hell. He casts Satan into a deep pit for a thousand years.
The Very Last War
Nathan: After the defeat of the Antichrist, Jesus then sets up His kingdom of peace, righteousness and justice which lasts a thousand years. However, there's still one last end times war at the end of that era.
Vic: That's wild! Nathan, could you give us a sneak peak of that one?
Nathan: At the end of the thousand years, Satan will be released. All the people who populate the Millennial Kingdom are those who accepted Jesus as Savior during the Tribulation and survived to live on in their earthly bodies. They have children during the Millennial Kingdom as well and refill the planet. Those children still have to accept Jesus or not.
Satan's released as a rallying point for those who during that time have rejected Christ as king. Sadly, Revelation 20 reveals many of those born during that time turn on Jesus. They want to overthrow Jesus. They want to live by the flesh and not by the spirit, so they will march upon Jerusalem where Jesus has His capital and they will try to destroy Jesus one last time. But again, Jesus just by speaking burns them up and He sends Satan to Hell. That's the ninth end times war and the very last war humanity will ever face according to the Bible, which is called the Second Gog & Magog Battle. That's it. There's war no more after that.
God sets up His Great White Throne Judgment and those who have rejected Him throughout history are resurrected from Torments and then sent to eternal punishment in Hell. Those who've accepted Jesus' salvation live on with Him throughout eternity in the city called the New Jerusalem on a newly revived earth.
Vic: And we say hallelujah and amen to that! What incredible prophecies. Most people today have no idea this all is what's going to develop, right?
Nathan: Yes, sadly. We're talking about nine end time wars that the Bible tells us about, and the signs of the end times points to the fact that these wars are coming soon.
Vic: Incredible. I hope we've given people a better understanding now of Bible prophecy, Eschatology and the things that are to come. Really, the point of sharing about the end times sign of wars is not to scare people, but to show people the seriousness of this time we live in and to warn them to turn to Christ now while there's still time. This is all coming in a future time, but one not that far off.
Sacrifice and Rescue
Vic: Those of us who've placed our trust in Jesus Christ will not see any of these end times wars, right, Nathan?
Nathan: Correct. Just like Jesus said in Matthew 24:6 said, "see that you are not troubled." In other words, we know that the world is raging around us and falling apart and death is at every corner, but if we put our hope and faith in Jesus Christ we know we will have eternal life with Him. That's a fantastic hope which I hope helps us stay sane in a world that's gone crazy.
Vic: Nathan, I always like to end by giving an invitation to anyone tuned in so they will have an opportunity to come to the love of Jesus. Maybe you can do that for us. Would you show us how people can come to know the Lord?
Nathan: I'd be happy too. First, know that Jesus Christ loves you. God sent His one and only son to die in your place. We are condemned to eternal death because of our sin, which in truth is our rebellion against God. And so, Jesus sacrificed Himself for you so that you have the opportunity to be judged as innocent. Jesus can be the perfect and only sacrifice because He's perfect and pure. The perfect for the imperfect died for us. His death took your place so that you don't have to face judgment in Hell.
If we accept Jesus as our Savior, then we in faith pray from our heart, "Dear, Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. Be my Savior." Jesus promises He will indeed forgive you of your sins and cleanse you of your guilt. You then inherit the promises of eternal life.
When you are a saved, child of God, you are a member of the Church, also called the Bride of Christ. The Bride doesn't experience the wrath of God. We will instead be taken up to Heaven in the Rapture. We will not see these wars of the Tribulation.
Vic: Praise the Lord! What an incredible blessing for those who recognize that God loves them and He has a wonderful plan for their life.
